Yeah, see, I tend to think pretty much everyone on the planet can benefit from some artful misdirection, so I find virtually every other cut out there to be more trend worthy.

Just avoid muffin tops like the plague and we're cool.

Try not living in Minnesota.

I wonder how much that actually impacts our opinions on clothes. The type of people you see does tend to depend on where you are.

There's skinny people in minnesota. I still don't think they look better in skinny jeans than they do in other jeans.

It's honestly a pretty bad argument once you factor in, you know, television and the internet and national modeling agencies.

You see many more people wearing most fashions in person, though, and they help to mold your opinion of it.

it was mostly a joke about "Ha ha you live in the middle of nowhere" before I remembered how many more eye-catching women there were when I went to Florida for a week than when I was home in CO.

1) Those are trousers I posted so I don't know why everybody is talking about skinny jeans
2) Those trousers are hardly skin-tight
3) Sometimes when people wear straight-leg or bootcut or whatever that is also very unflattering! Kenya Believe It?
5)
I don't think anyone on the pro-skinny jeans side of this discussion is actually talking about the kind that are skintight.
6) Although drainpipes are totally valid on some people
7) (less people than who actually wear them though)

P.S. Also can we re-name this thread "Sometimes there are pretty ladies in nice clothes here also some pictures of boots/shoes and every once in a while Animal Ghostkieffer shows up and looks sharp too"?

I like it but it needs to be made catchier. I propose: PHOTOTHREAD PLATINUM: NO UGGOS ALLOWED

Maybe we should change it to PHOTOTHREAD MINOR: FEWER PICTURES, MORE OPINIONS AND COMPLAINING

Fashion thread, show me a real man's watch.

Elegant and classy but fit for all occasions (black tie affairs, every day casual, swimming and diving, working out, kicking ass, fucking your sister)

I'm turning 18 and my grandfather, who has recently entered my life for the first time since I was born and is doing the whole "you'll be a man soon" role model thing, is coming here from Russia four days after my birthday.

I'm a sucker for traditions and symbols and shit and so I feel like a nice wristwatch as a birthday gift would mean a lot to me for a long time.

He's a pretty wealthy dude but I don't want to be a dick so what exists out there for no more than $500-600?

Straight legs are flattering on me, most bootcut and all flares are more unflattering than slim cuts. (I prefer slim to skinnies, because they aren't quite as tight, for which my knees and butt are thankful.) So depending on how you are shaped, how long your legs are, and pretty much your taste in pants, every style of pant can be unflattering on someone. But even if it's unflattering, people still wear stuff.

But you know what I want? A larger return of midrise pants. Fuck lowcut jeans. Midrise is where it's at.

Yeah but I mean. There's still room to bend in the knees and butt and they don't follow the ankle all the way down. Last time I went to buy jeans the girl tried to convince me to get some that had to have zippers on the ankles they were so tight.

Gene: http://artofmanliness.com/2009/12/23/5-signs-of-a-quality-watch/

Take what the dude says with a grain of salt, however. And read the comments, they're probably just as helpful (particularly in terms of naming individual brands/models of note) as the article proper.

I'd personally recommend checking out Seiko. As you can see from the article above there's a fair bit of snobbery that goes about regarding "only Swiss watches are worth caring about" but that's quite an outmoded view as there are plenty of non-Swiss brands out there nowadays who make watches of equal quality. I wear a Seiko Perpetual Calender and it's very much an heirloom quality watch and stunningly accurate. I've had to reset the time on it once in 3 years.

Yeah, I think flares look pretty terrible on everyone. But I've found that the tiny slight flare of bootcuts gives me some pretty perfect balances.

Also, here's the thing with jeans and body types. The thought of low rise jeans is terrible to me. When I hear "lowest rise" I think "let me show you my ass crack," but because my butt is so freaking huge low rise jeans are actually the best fitting on me. The sort of hug the top of my butt without being too low. Both midrise, and higher, sort of push away from my butt and shows so much more butt crack, and leaves all this extra denim hanging around. They look terrible. But damn, my butt looks great in some low rise bootcuts.

So yeah, I don't know. I guess I don't really have any beef with any sort of jeans in general, except for the super super painted on skin tight skinny jeans. Those look silly. If you can't sit, you needn't wear them. And maybe flares, but even those can be pulled off properly in some situations. I think I just have a thing against them because I wore them a lot in middle school and they remind me of being a child.

Blog Thread recommend me a Russian grandpa

I feel like this could be a fun little option for spring but it seems like a lot of maintenance and really not versatile enough for my needs

on the other hand I could go with this but I think he's dry-clean only and I just can't be bothered with that shit, y'know?

This might be my favourite and it seems like it'd be quite easy to dress him down for more casual situations and he accessorises great

The last one is probably the nicest looking, but honestly, I think the first is the best investment for your dollar. #3 is a great looking guy and I think runs the risk of the suit outshining the model, if you know what I mean. Go for #1, he's tried and tested, and since he's willing to sleep on the street you don't have to worry about where to put him should some fetching lady decide to take you home with her.

I 100% disagree with you. Medals like the ones he is wearing weren't just handed out. He must have been through some serious shit during WWII. Anyone who has lived through WWII and then the entire soviet regime would be interesting to talk to.

Also, I do not think skinny jeans look good on guys. But I am biased because I bought 1 pair of tighter jeans in college to impress my gf and they were hard to fit into, now they are loose at the waist and below the knees, but they get a pretty nice death grip going on my thighs.

See it was a metaphor in that we are talking about using old men as accessories. If that man was a blazer, it would be hard to wear it because it is just that darn good looking that it stands out too much.
If you go to a party with that man, you do not pick up chicks, he picks up all the chicks and you get to sit around playing backgammon or something.

It really depends on how skinny we're talking here. I actually rather like a lot of the drainpipes you see from the '50s. Basically, you shouldn't go tighter than Elvis. But the jeans that are basically just tights and include a taper all the way to the bottom? On guys? Please don't.

Lunchy, when I said that I forgot to mention that it was a compliment!

That is the best kind of tight on people with nice figures.

Dovey, that article was the first thing I read on the subject a few days ago.

Honestly I would like a European-made watch, though it doesn't have to be Swiss.

The AoM article makes some good points but I'm more lost as to style than quality.

I looked through the most current TAG Heuer and Rolex (just for the hell of it) models and they all seem bulky and tacky.

I also looked at Hamilton (seemingly the only reputable American brand) but not as closely. Are their watches any good?

Quite often, I see guys trying to compliment girls. Guys who are really bad at it. A girl can be fishing for compliments, and the second she says something about her weight, the guy says "aw, no, you're skinny!" Most often, the unfortunate fellow won't understand why the girl suddenly becomes very upset and self conscious. Afterall, he just complimented her on her weight, right?

I think almost the same thing applies to arguments about 'skinny jeans'. I see a lot of people defend skinny jeans, or attack skinny jeans, and they have totally different ideas about what 'skinny jeans' actually are. Are they skinny? Or are they tight?

Alex was right when he said that drainpipes are acceptable. Those are the jeans people who argue for "skinnies" are defending. The people attacking these 'skinnies' are attacking the silly looking tapered jeans that leave nothing to the imagination.
When you wear those jeans, you may as well be wearing spandex. Infact, many of us would prefer you DID wear spandex because then you wouldn't seem like you're trying to pass off that shit as something that is acceptable. You wear skinny jeans, and no matter what you think, everybody else thinks "motherfucker's pants just take me there, I wanna hit him", but if you wear spandex, the same people think "I don't get it, but that's a man I can respect".
That's because the spandex pants are a far more honest way of saying "I'm into stupid pixie shit".
For the record, it's several times more gay if you add pointy shoes in the equation.

Shopping for watches always kinda upsets me. I like watches. I think they are damn handsome and it's not like I'm the jealous sort who routinely hates on people for owning nice things. On the other hand, watches are one of the few areas where the snobbery involved can get so thick where I do get a li'l bummed out by it at times. It seems kind of unreasonable to be upset by it, but yet I can't really think of many other areas where people tend to think in terms of "It needs to cost thousands of dollars and be Swiss or it's not worth owning."

Oh well. It's probably just sour grapes from when I found that most of the watches I really like cost around 15 grand.

I had never heard them called Jeggings before but oh my fuck they are so popular around here and I just want them to eat shit and burn. Especially because they're usually teamed with those really light cotton t-shirt dresses or oversized singlets or summint'. So awful.

I looked through the most current TAG Heuer and Rolex (just for the hell of it) models and they all seem bulky and tacky.

Ugh I know. It seems a lot of the really prestigious watch brands have started heavily marketing based on the size of the watch, i.e; Look, this watch comes in a 43mm dial! That is bigger than yr neighbours watch! Rolex is probably the worst for this.

Yeah, I checked once outta morbid curiousity and Omega sells a wristwatch that clocks in at 49mm. Who are they selling these to? Wookies? Flavor Flav?

Oh, wait, I just looked at their boating oriented watches. Those are much bigger.

Skagen do some very nice, non-bulky, non-garish watches. Really handy for someone who doesn't have terribly big wrists. The one I've got has decent heft to it despite being relatively small. They're probably not fancy enough for the whole handing it down through generations thing but they're good watches for wearing.

I've got a different watch problem though. I need another one. Something that works better with every day jeans and a tshirt wear. Ideally I want something simple, probably black, a small face, analogue.

I like Nixon watches. Namely, this one and this one. Oh, and this one.

Nixon's often tend towards the huge side, however. Although that canvas one looks pretty sweet.
