Well if wearing a shirt over a tshirt makes someone a douchebag, I guess I've been telling everyone I'm a douche for a while now. At least they can have an honest assessment of my personality.

sooo not the point. it's the design that's kind of problematic, not the fact that it's a tshirt.

I do happen to dislike the current fashionability of what might be called 'military-chic' for more-or-less the same reason.

Uh....military fashion is not a current thing. It's been around forever. Especially in the goth scene.
Camouflage was high fashion in France in the early 1900s, that's how old it is. And overcoats tend to take a lot of cues from military outerwear, if they aren't complete rip-offs of military designs. I'm probably missing some even older cues (cravats?).

I just like surplus clothes because they are comfortable, cheap, and have a lot of pockets.

I like my docs because I wanted big stompy boots that were comfy, and didn't have the huge soles that a lot of goth stompyboots for ladies (and men too, I guess) seem to have around here. These boots are probably themost comfy shoes I have, and if they weren't a faded red colour I would wear them to work all the time rather than my sneaker-y shoes which make my feet hurt after standing for a few hours. But es, main reasn for getting them was big boots that were a bit different to what I normally wear, to essentally help me be more confident.

Gus, I am seeing a lot of plaid stuff around in stores, and I think I could pull some of it off if I tried wearing them. Should I at least try plaid and get the internet's opinion? I would have done it earlier, but est just keeps givivng me disapproving looks whenever I start looking at plaid.
hell yeah, unintentional pagbreak

I wear combat boots because they last forever and are more comfortable to me than most shoes. Also the steel-toe helps when heavy car parts fall on my feet.

I've always liked the cut of military style jackets but kinda find patches and such bit tacky, tbh. A fairly minor nitpick though.

Yeah, I don't wear any patches on my military-ish jackets, aside from the flags that come on them, and even then I don't wear American flags, I figure having a flag of a different country helps give the idea that no, I'm not in the military, so please don't thank me for my service.

Nah, it's an old soviet jacket. The shoulders read "CA" on each side, but I've never been able to figure out what it stands for! I don't think it's California.

edit: I guess you can't actually see the shoulders at all! They're just red shoulder pads. I can't find another image on the web of it, but... they're shoulder flaps.

Jens, the "CA" would transliterate as "SA" and stands for "Sovietskaya Armiya" (Soviet Army). The C is a Cyrillic S.

I'm going to sound stubborn here but, in many ways, I am a grumpy old man. Call it perks.

Jens, that jacket does look good on you. However, it's not a look I would recommend. As part of a uniform it is an item of clothing designed, amongst other things, to make you a part of something bigger than an individual. Call it an army, a brotherhood, whatever - the bigger point is when someone puts it on they're saying they stand for the wider values of that organisation, they're saying they've earnt the right to wear it. If that doesn't apply, certainly in the case of a uniform with a little attached history, then I don't think that person should put it on.

I don't suggest for one moment that by wearing that jacket you're making yourself out to be a Soviet officer or anything like that. Like I say, it looks good on you and that's probably why you choose to wear it. You could probably achieve a similar effect in a smart civvy jacket is all.

Guys, stop being fashion wankers. If this jacket was some sort of complex fashion decision you have far too much spare time.

It's a nice jacket, wear it. If military types get offended then they're far too thin skinned. And you're in Norway. I doubt the military in Norway are as enthusiastic as they are in the States.

I am too late for boots discussion. I will add this anyway: I have Doc Martins, I've always had them, since my feet were big enough to own them, I still have the same pairs from when I was a kid. They are awesome for walking, or being places where there's water & you don't want your feet to get wet.

They are practical. Sometimes clothes that look good can be practical & good value (Like old army surplus.)

I have a pair of Doc's that are old enough to walk into a bar by themselves and order a drink.

Don't wear them much anymore.  I've actually been saving them because I want to bronze them like baby booties and make bookends out of them.   I've got another pair I bought right before my oldest was born, and she's going to be 16 soon.   Is it sad that I still think of those as my 'new' boots?
