If there's one thing you don't want, it's your linguistics professor thinking you are a racist.  That could seriously fuck up your life man.

So I got bored doing my linguistics homework and I was making up nonsense words for examples cause it's fun and for some reason the word 'pickaninny' popped into my head so I wrote it down and then half an hour later I realised I'd heard it before and it was a real word. I went to look it up and it turns out its actually pretty racist and now my linguistics professor probably thinks I am some racist lunatic.
That's racist? It's a more than common word in Patois (Jamaican creole) for "child". Thinking about it, it probably is a racist term for "black child".

I think it's one of those words that was probably racist 150 years ago but nobody actually remembers well enough to get offended by but its kind of comforting to know its been ameliorated enough that I can justify it

How does that work?

p.s.  One of my friends got a 0.8 GPA (out of 4.0 maximum) his first semester.  He ended up graduating from the same place and he got into nuclear power school in the navy (which is pretty tough to get into).  So don't stress it.

Shit I have the flu and On The Road is the most frustrating piece of literature of the last century besides maybe anything Umberto Eco has written.  If you have not yet read this book, let me show you how the worst parts of it read:

"Oh so we went to this place and there were some hot chicks and I wanted to bone them but I didn't because I was still on the way to some other place, or at least I would be if I wasn't broke 95% of the time and have you heard about my friend he is just about the coolest guy in the world, but he is sort of crazy but that's okay because I like crazy people as you can see from my unending accounts of people who would generally be considered batshit insane if they weren't hitchhiking and so there's this plHGULGFHHIGHL HELP ME I AM BEING SMOTHERED BY MY OWN ANUS"

It's okay all in all, I just wish Kerouac would make the journey a bit more readable and prosey, seeing as the journey is what takes place of actual plot.

Screw you, I like On the Road.

I'm thinking of going by Jim, James is my middle name and there are more Toms than you can shake a stick at and I'd kinda feel like a tool for going by Thomas. My nan went by Pam because of all the Marys.

My usually normal, polite and well-mannered 10yo little brother has taken to quoting Meet the Spartans, worshiping at the profane altar of dark Lords Friedberg and Seltzer, using ghetto slang poorly and unironically. In addition to this he now listens to 2DayFM religiously, finds great joy in some absurd style of techno called "hard style" and "shuffles" as well as referencing 'yo mama' jokes whilst possessing no understanding of the underlying allusions within.

Is this a clear sign of the impending apocalypse?

Every time I'm reminded that Microsoft Office exists I smugly take satisfaction in that I've arranged my life in such a way that the fact that Word even exists only crosses my mind once a month or so.

What I'm getting at is I don't miss paperwork.

Dear blog thread,

today I (hopefully) dodged customs duties and VAT, bought a new (technically old) camera, started (okay, resumed) cleaning my room (after three months away :o) as preparation for my super dorm makeover, and felt heartbroken. Oh but I also learned about ferrite beads and solved a few tricky furniture problems, so this day goes in the PLUS pile :)

hey blog thread, i have kind of a weird problem that i need some advice on. probably the weirdest problem i've had in a while, actually -

over the course of the last two to three weeks, i've been noticing a pattern where every time i leave my house i am assaulted by wasps. you know, bugs. they come after me in massive numbers and fly around my head and into my face and land on me and twice so far have gone so far as to sting me. wasp stings really fucking hurt! my paranoia is getting to the point where every time i see something airborne i immediately begin shouting and flailing and running into traffic and into the path of speeding cars to try to get away from it. i've changed my perfume, my hair product, my shampoo, my deodorant, and my fabric softener, and i'm honest to god starting to think this recent turn of events has less to do with personal odor and a lot more to do with some kind of insect assassination conspiracy against me. it's gotten to the point where this kind of makes me not even want to leave my house anymore. it's fucking ridiculous to type out but it's scary! for real! i really miss when constantly running away from stinging flying insects was not my life.

is this some higher power's way of telling me i'm no longer needed on this planet? what do i do??

I'm getting really frustrated with Plymouth County.  I got two tickets over a month ago for expired registration and sticker on my car.  $150.  La la la, I'm too lazy to fight them so I just sent them a check like 2 days after I got them.  How long can it seriously take to deposit a check?  Really?  Balancing my bank account really sucks when I have to remember they haven't done crap yet.  I'm so afraid I'm going to forget about it and end up bouncing them or something.  Next time, I'm using cashier's checks or money orders.  This waiting game sucks.  Just take my fucking money already!

Oh man. Guys. I am at work. We are stocking a new thing that seems incredibly gimmicky at first: A cube of chocolate that you put into a cup of warm milk so it turns into, uh, hot chocolate. We already sell hot chocolate, so I thought this was another of the cheap, low-quality things we stock because people will buy anything that sounds new. I decided to try one so I know what I'm selling to people. It is so fucking delcious. It tastes of real chocolate! From Belgium! Rich in flavour and so thick and smooth. I found God in a chocolate hot milk popsicle

Work is alright today.

This is one of the less impressive but more appreciated examples of how we are living in the future.  Yay technology/innovation!

I have sneezed, at a conservative estimate, maybe sixteen billion times since Monday. EITHER TURN INTO THE FLU (sick pay from work!) or GET BETTER there are no other options at this point.

There's this really handy "other thing" I'm going to write as a footnote to my abstract that I can probably explore these issues in. I think I'll call it my "dissertation."

Call an exterminator?

sorry, that was bad phrasing on my part. when i said "every time i leave my house" what i actually meant was "anytime i am outdoors, period". it's happened in like six different areas of markham and a couple of times in the gta too. everybody always looks at me like i'm crazy. i don't understand why are there so many wasps everywhere and why am i the only one they keep going after. i am the star of the absolute dumbest mystery/horror film ever.

Choc-o-lait is a magical chocolate stick filled with authentic Belgian chocolate.

As much as I like that product, it's not a fucking magical chocolate stick.

On a side note, I would totally see that band.

I find it amusing that I find out I passed all my tests last year less then a week before going to my new school. That is some slow mail.
