Oh noes!

Also, should I just get espresso, or get espresso in my coffee?  I hear they do that sort of thing.  I don't know much about espresso except that pound for pound, it has less caffeine than my nice, light roast which is a nice bit of trivia.

Espresso is just a shot of super concentrated coffee, so it'd be much stronger than what you'd be used to if you drank it at the same volume. The shot is then used as a base for types of coffee, like a latte, cappuccino, flat white, or whatever.

Yes, but I don't like any coffee-flavored beverages except coffee (and by extension espresso).  I like coffee.  What I was asking is if I should get a shot separately (straight, which I've had before and is good), or in my morning coffee (which I think I might have heard of happening before, and is more efficient)?

I would say to add it to your current coffee and maybe you won't need to make two stops.

Awesome.  I will do that.  Probably not tomorrow, because I have enough time to run on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which means I don't need as much to help me wake up, but on Friday I'm totally going to rock the espresso in the coffee.

Now I'm a bit confused... I know filter coffee is the norm in the US, yeah? Is this what you mean by "coffee", and without milk? So are you saying that people get a shot of espresso added into a cup of filter coffee?

The way most Americans prefer to drink espresso over here is in the form of a long black with milk on the side. A long black is 1-2 shots of coffee diluted with hot water, so it's more like filter coffee.

But generally latte, flat white, long black, espresso (short black), macchiato, cappuccino are all referred to as coffee.

By "coffee," I mean ground coffee beans with water filtered through, and only that.  I like strong, but light roast, because I actually like coffee beans and I don't like it when people cook all of the flavor (and a lot of the caffeine) out of them (some people put milk and/or sugar in, but I only put sugar in coffee that's truly terrible, like Starbucks).  By "espresso," I mean a shot of concentrated espresso roast coffee.  I've never actually seen what you are calling a long black, but I think it would taste of watered-down espresso.  In the US, I've only seen espresso in shot form, or in either macchiato, cappuccino or latte.

So, short answer, espresso shot in the filter coffee.

Ally, I should be doing homework that was due today or tomorrow, but I'm trying to find what people see in "Glee."

After the first episode, I hate it.  I'm sure this view is partially influenced by the fact that it's a show about Glee club, which is something I detest, as well as the fact that they decided to do "Don't Stop Believing," which every a capella group ever has performed.

I'll probably give it two more episodes before I decide that I'm not missing anything.

Naw, they sing pop songs from which they have meticulously excised anything that made them interesting or exciting.  If they didn't insist on doing pop music, then I might be more inclined to like it.

Even in America, we tend to call diluted espresso "an Americano" (and from what I could gather in Italy, it was developed as their pejorative approximation of drip coffee, as in, "un caffè ruined in the way Americans like to ruin it").  "Coffee" without any modifiers, here at least, usually just refers to drip coffee.

Oh, and the Wikipedia article documenting this mess explains that espresso diluted with coffee is called a "red eye."

In Canberra there is, or was, a small Italian restaurant/cafe called Caffe Lella. The proprietor of Caffe Lella was an Italian man who was famously passionate and outspoken about what he felt were the "right" and "wrong" approaches to food. On one occasion, so the story goes, some American tourists visited Caffe Lella, and one of them asked for an American coffee. Outraged, the proprietor took a cup into the kitchen, filled the cup full of dishwater from the kitchen sink, brought it back out to the customers in question and, slamming it down on their table, declared: "That! That is an American coffee!!"

Okay, guys.  I don't need two more episodes.  The second episode is vastly improved over the first.  The subject matter is still distasteful to me, but the amount of purely vocal music is vastly reduced, which is nice.  It's still slightly insulting, musically, but at least they're not even trying for realism most of the time.

Also, Bluecoat gin is really interesting.  An internet person told me to try it, and I finally got around to purchasing a bottle tonight.  It's really interesting in a martini.

Dear Coffee Blog Thread,
It's funny how just smiling to someone can make them become all giggly and red.

Story: Cute Girl thinks I'm cute. Everytime I see her in the school corridors, she stares at me. I usualy just try to ignore her non-intense staring, so I don't make a faux-pas. Today, while going to my Economics Class, I see her coming. I decided to just look at her, smile and nod. (Silent Hi.) She became a bit red, giggled and smiled back.

That is the highlight of my day.

I am using a borrowed computer atm and I got a pop up for a video where "Drunk chicks eating each other out at the club". Now of course that is not surprising at all but one of the comments, proudly emblazoned on the ad states that

There must be a lot of self esteem issues going on here to make an otherwise normal, homely girl become an opened legged slut in front of a camera. You can try all you want girl, but a penis is not going to fill that void.

I am not sure when pop up ads started offering crushing insight on the human condition.

Hey there collegeblog thread.

Uni is hard. I guess I should have expected it, since I'm taking the second hardest law course in the world (beaten only by Harvard) but there is SO MUCH WORK. I had three hours of introductory lectures today which were interesting but told me nothing new, since I already studied law at a basic level, and then I read for three and a half hours. I haven't even finished the preparatory reading for one subject, and I have four subjects to read for (for tort law, I have to read 52 cases) and three essays to write.

I'm actually really loving it, although I seem to be alone almost all the time. I'm trying to decide right now whether to go and quickly eat some reheated pasta and then go to a quiz night at another college, or whether to go and eat some reheated pasta and dry my hair and do some knitting. Probably the former; I am turning into a hermit.

Hey blog thread, apparently I'm not even employable in a wine bar woo. It's probably because there are many more experienced people out there, but that doesn't stop me from feeling useless.  :-(

Also, I can't exactly remember how many weeks it's been since I really talked to my friends in real life. I had a quick chat with my best friend today because he was back home from uni for a bit, but I ended up mostly laughing nervously like I'd never spoken to him before.

Other than that life is fine. Utterly boring, but fine.

I'm going through old VHS tapes from my misspent youth, and it turns out that I have what must be the bulk of Beavis and Butthead video commentary on tape. Not the episodes, mind you, just the videos. I don't remember doing that; it must be my cousin's or something, because I've never had any real particular affection for the show. That said, it's kinda frightening how much my tastes match up with that of a couple of idiots; with the way Mike Judge operates, I don't know if I'm necessarily being insulted or not from clip to clip. It makes me very unsure how to take this. On the other hand, they seem to be pretty OK with Lou Reed, so at least there's that. Of course, they were talking about stuff from one of his weaker albums. Ah, screw what Mike Judge thinks.

Have fun anyways!

Dear blah blee bloo,

I am turning into a cranky bitch. People keep complaining about things, people are stupid, I get no sleep, I am stressed, and I am beginning to hate days that do not begin with the letter S. But this weekend I am going to the renaissance festival and I will see lots of men in kilts. Too bad for them it's going to be cold, bwahaha.

p.s. Sadly the problems of the world can not be solved by eating cake. I was hoping it would, as the cake was delicious, but it's just not meant to be. Not even with ice cream on top.

Sincerely,
Miss Cranky Pants

Also! I am going back to Chicago in two weeks for an open house at SAIC for graduate programs! Hopefully it rocks. If not, hey, I get to spend a weekend in Chicago.

i went to go buy bus tickets today at a different location than the one i normally buy bus tickets from and the lady at the counter charged me $10 less than usual. i found out while i was leaving that the reason i got charged less was because she gave me student tickets... as in high school student.

while this is kind of cool because it'll save me $10 on bus tickets every week, it's also kind of crap because i'm 22 and only getting older yet this "you look like a child" thing (which is rapidly losing it's charm) doesn't seem like it's going to go away anytime soon and come on universe, why you got to do a thing

I just got my internet back after like 2 weeks. I missed the internet and most of you guys (the ones I didn't miss can go get fucked). On monday I'm sending off the last of my uni applications so hopefully that will go well but if I don't get into uni then I am probably just not going to apply anymore. It's only going to get harder to get into and I don't feel like paying through the nose to go back and do my undergraduate degree again since I've already done it twice.

Hey, other student-intern that works at my company,
When I send you an e-mail with a list of documents and say "Print 10 copies of each, staple them, put them in a marked folder and then file them alphabetically in the boxes behind you", what I mean is do exactly that. What I do not mean is "Print somewhere between 3 and 10 copies of these and then leave them in piles on our shared desk with a Post-It saying 'Here are the ones I printed I don't know what to do'".

Fixing this is going to take up my entire day and I have a ton of service orders to close and afaaroairg FUUUU-- I'm so bitter.

I'm so excited for this weekend!  I'm not really doing anything!  I have one show to attend tomorrow night for maybe 2 hours, but that's it.  I'm so psyched.  The past few months and the next couple are packed with things that I need to attend, so this is my one and only reprieve and yay, I get to see my boyfriend!  Alone!  This is amazing.  One more hour (more like 40 min if I can find a good way out) until I'm out of work, hooray!

I moved to Canada recently and I haven't gotten full citizenship. I'll get full citizenship in 5-7 months, until then I can't get a job.
