I didn't read it that way at all. She's just saying that Claire has to do what's best for her. Martin will either be okay with that or not, and given how much he loves her it's a strong certainty that he will be

mmmm, vacuum would not be good for organics, pulls out all the volatiles. Paper might better be kept in a neutral environment, some partial pressure of noble gasses, such as Argon. Also need some humidity (30%?), being careful of the waters purity.

Hmm, yes. Though you’d still want specialist handling hardware - normal grease/oil/coolant may be prone to sublimation in a low-pressure environment and you don’t want anything tracking outside air and dirt into the vault.
