but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

Quote from: JLM
I don't mind my beats being chopped and broken and played with, but I think that the Amen is a bit played out.  It's 2005, find a different sample.

Gabber is the reason that people who hate electronic music, hate electronic music.

My favorite ambience lately: Fennesz - Venice, Marsen Jules - Herbstlaub (although the latter is borderline fluxion in its minimalism).

My two favorite electronic finds in the past few months:

Triola - Triola Im Fünftonraum
Lusine - Serial Hodgepodge

I love the beats cut up beyonf recognition, which is where the whole drill n bass thing comes in. It's the gabber style 'dum dum du du dum' at 200+BPM that just bores the hell out of me, which is why I ain't a huge fan of those two albums. It's pretty fun live (for a bit), but on CD, just dull.
I still find it pretty funny that this whole 'cutting edge' breakcore scene is based around nothing but the Amen Break. It's a nice break, I'm not denying it, and seeing the massive variation you can get from one sample is cool, but like you say, it's getting a little played out. I really don't see why they can't apply the same ideas to some new drum sounds, but if I look hard wnough I'm sure I can find people who are destroying other prefectly innocent drum loops.
You are clearly a man of admirable (not to mention obscure) taste, so I'm all over those 4 albums you mentioned. If I can find them. It could well be a struggle, as I've never heard of any of them, and that usually means they are hassle to find.

On an album purchasing note, I just got Cali Agents - How The West Was One off Ebay for £3 including P&P. Score!

Are you a fan of Nortt?
I've hear of him, yet haven't heard him. From what I've heard, looks like good stuff.

My latest album purchase was the new Acceptance CD called "Phantoms".  Very very very nice CD :)  Might I suggest tracks 1, 3, 5, 6, 10, and 11 - my personal fave being track 10.

When I buy music from the local record store, I buy things in 'threes'.
One album that I've heard before (be it a concert, radio, or a friends place, or even an old one i've lost) that i really liked.
One album that I've heard good things about from others that have good musical tastes but haven't heard myself.
One from an existing favorite artist of mine just to expand their collection.

So following that formula, here is what i just picked up today:
Gorillaz - Demon Days
Architecture in Helsinki - In Case We Die
The Dzihan & Kamien Orchestra - Live in Vienna

I haven't had a chance to hear the first two much because D&K has been stuck in the cd player since I got home.  Simply amazing.  I still haven't found anyone else on this site that listens to them, but its not really everyones bag I guess.

On Saturday I bought
New Morning, Changing Weather by T(I)NC of course.

I had a burned ceedee with quite a few of their songs on it so I figured I should support them by finally picking up an album...
and what an album!!

The last CD I bought was a sup pop sampler off the mighty eBay, not a bad purchase.  Already had a few songs on there. Before that, I don't know. Probably Le Tigre from their Manchester gig or the latest Idlewild, which even I can't admit to finding pleasureable. A saving Best Of would have been better than this drivel. Sort it out Roddy, your boyish good looks and checked shirts won't save you this time.

Kyuss-Blues For the Red Sun
Kyuss-Welcome To Sky Valley
Finally Ending my spree of buying obscuro micro edition stuff are a couple of CD's I've meant to buy for a long, long time. The first one has some great stuff on it along with a few bits that seem kind of pointless like brief instrumentals that sound like half completed songs. The Second one is interesting but the way the songs are organised into three suits with no bookmarks in-between songs is annoying as I can't skip straight to a track I like. All of this stuff is nice and heavy I've been having a fair bit of a craving for slow heavy stuff lately, that nonetheless still has a structure to it.

I bought InMe's new album White Butterfly.

I don't normally like music as heavy as InMe but something about them is different and I really like them and this album is brilliant, take Overgrown Eden, multiply it by 100 and you've got White Butterfly.

My Favourite songs on the album are 7 Weeks, Faster the Chase and Angels with Snipers which is a bonus track on the limited edition.

Start off? Really any of them. My personal favourites are the earliest ones on Asian Man. The new one's great too. For starters, I'd have to go with From Here To Infirmary, however.

It was their most pop-punk album I think, fast and loud, but very catchy. Lyrically, it's also quite funny (in a very dark way).

I'm going to have to disagree and suggest Goddamnit.  I think that is the album that best exemplifies Alkaline Trio.  Not to mention I personally think it is their best.  Hows that for a first post....whabam.  Hey Juls!

Excellent.  Initially that was my favorite of his work, though after multiple listens to In A Safe Place those two are now tied
.  "Vermillion" is still one of my favorite tracks though.

Thunderbirds are now!  umm...someone is borrowing them now and I am lazy but their old cd doctor, lawyer indian chief or something and just mustach or something like that...

someone else put their last one in a must have section but it is so studio it hurts.  I got the cds from the show I saw them at and it just takes so much away the way they recorded it, ah well.

Also Enon's new cd with DVD which is not as great as the High Society one...nope, but that DVD, fun stuff.

Oh also Enon vinyl of In This City which is mostly that and remixes but I have not heard it yet.
