Today in the mail I recieved The Bad Plus - Suspicious Activity
I immediately had to get on the road to visit my friend who lives about an hour and a half away, and my portable CD player (which I can hook up to my car via a tape adapter) is back in Charleston.  Long story short, I haven't listened to it yet, but if "These are the Vistas" and "Give" are any indication, this is going to be bad ass.

Brand New Heavies' self-titled and "Brother Sister".

One of my jackass friends jacked this from me.  After several years, I have it again.

Liquorball-Fucks the Sky LP
-The artwork on the front is indecipherable, the artwork on the back is a plagrized, grainy picture of batboy. The lable on the record has no song titles; it simply says "Get well soon". The first side finishes with the singer screaming "why!?" for several minutes.

My Bloody Valentine's Loveless and The Jesus and the Mary Chain's Psychocandy. I've had burnt copies of both for ages, and I finally decided to give Kevin Shields and Bobby Gillespie a few dollars respectively.

Both are fucking awesome, as you all well know.

Today I splurged and got a few new albums and 1 ep.

The Coral - "Magic and Medicine" Nice album. I got hooked when I heard "Don't Think You're the First." Very... Super Furry Animals... but better.

Destroyer - "Destroyer's Rubies" What the hell? I was seriously expecting something heavier as I had never heard Destroyer before... but I absolutely love this album. I'm so glad I listened to it in the store though. I would have had a heart attack in my car if not.

Mission of Burma - "VS." I had never heard of them before, but I wanted to check them out before I go to the Pitchfork Festival. Oh wow, these guys rock. I can't wait till I have the cash to buy their newest album.

(EP) People in Planes - "If You Talk too Much (My Head Will Explode)" It was $.99 and they're going to open for Blue October later this month. I wanted to check them out prior. I'm glad I did. Awesome stuff. I'm excited  for both bands now.

I went a little crazy last week.  Expecially since I rarely venture into this corner of the forums.

Pearl Jam: Lost Dogs
Fiona Apple: Extraordiary Machine
Junior Brown: Semi Crazy
Junior Brown: 12 Shades of Brown
Junior Brown: Long walk back
Junior Brown: Mixed Bag
Flyleaf: Self titled EP

Now If I can get someone to buy everything on my amazon CD wishlist I'll be a happy camper for a long while.....

Damn, I've been beaten...  Oh well, at least there's someone to agree that it's all sorts of amazingful then.  And it was part of a 3 for $30 at HMV (along with The Smiths and Amnesiac), which made it all the better.

No, I wasn't saying it in a sort of "I'm hipper than you" way, it was more of "I have this and it's a totally awesome album, isn't it", way.

I knew that, but such feelings are hard to convey over the internet.  They need an internet that has emotions and voice tones built into it.  I'd totally buy that, or at least illegally download it.

And yes, it certainly is awesome.

Brian-Eno-lovin' people: what's the best album to start with? I really need more ambient CDs.

Well, it depends on what you're looking for.  I'd start with Another Green World, as it shows Eno at a crossroads between his pop and ambient work.  Before and After Science shows this nicely as well, as does his work with David Bowie on Bowie's Low and Heroes (though I'd avoid Lodger, the third in Bowie's Berlin trilogy, unless you're a big Bowie fanatic).

As far as his more ambient works go, I'd recommend the experimental work Ambient 1: Music For Airports, Ambient 4: On Land, and a whole bunch of collaborations: the Fripp & Eno album Evening Star, the album with Harold Budd and Daniel Lanois called The Pearl the David Byrne & Eno album My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, and his work with Cluster (either the compilation Old Land or the self-titled Cluster & Eno will do fine).  All these represent either concept approaches or novel collaborations in Eno's approach to reductive composition in the mid 70s to early 80s.

So I'm still on-topic, I bought a couple CDs this weekend:

Klaus Schulze - X
Silver Scooter & Super XX Man - "The Scot Garred Sampler"
Franciose Hardy - La Question
Jandek - Six and Six
The Stratford Five - A New Design for Living

Plus a lot of other stuff, but I can't remember what it is as I am at work and these are the only CDs from that trip that I have with me.

I hope to get Mogwai's new Mr Beast sometime soon, too. "Glasgow Mega Snake" is awesome.

Sonic Youth - Goo (Had a burnt copy lying around for at least two years, excellent stuff, particularly "Tunic (Song for Karen)" and "Dirty Boots". This one was only $10.)

The Arcade Fire - Funeral (What more can be said about this album?)

Dungen - Ta Det Lugnt (Swedish one man band psychedelia revival FTW)

Kraftwerk - The Man Machine ("We're functioning automatic...and we are dancing mechanic". Fuck, this album is awesome.)

Mmm... Jazzolicious.  The cover of Seven Nation Army is... sultry.

And I got the Iron & Wine cover of Such Great Heights... I saw that M&M commercial again and I was like... hrm... that guy's voice sounds familiar...

Then I realized that it was the voice of one of the recommendations on here.
