I've been trying to convince it to work through Gaim but it doesn't want to work. Not sure why as I don't actually know anyone who uses it. Why can't we just standardise this already?

Standards in the IM world? That'd be worth seeing. Somehow I don't expect the large companies to do that, though.

nih, to be fair it IS only the first beta, gmail was missing some major core features when it started too. It'll be interesting to see how they develop the client.
Although personally i'm more waiting for them to publish the specs for their voice chat stuff so it can get plugged into gaim.

It IS their first beta. And it's not something I'd really use on a day-to-day basis. Yet everybody persists in singing their praises of how KICK ASS it is. Please. I'd use a command line chat client first...
