Corrupted, El Mundo Frio
The gy!be of doom metal. This whole album is one 70-minute track that crescendoes in and out twice. Best served with a long attention span.
Also, Corrupted is a Japanese band that sings mainly in Spanish. Odd.

Those boys from Bodom can sure fucking rip it up. Or at least, that was the case. Back in the day. *sniffles for another great band gone to pot*

Although elements of his time with Skinny Puppy show up in the album, most of the album is out there pop-itnged electronic/industrial weirdness and well worth checking out.

Sleep's Holy Mountain
Definitely a good contrast to Dopesmoker, ie. bite-sized chunks and tempos over 25bpm. And I think I just heard a melody!
Totally makes me think of early Black Sabbath, which is weird because I haven't heard that much early Sabbath.

I love that album.  First time I heard it I was kind of wierded out, and didn't pay much attention, but it's now one of my favorites.

Anyway, right now I'm listening to Kissing the Lipless by The Shins, and up next is the rest of Chutes Too Narrow.

The Appleseed Cast, Lost Songs
I can't remember if this was a b-sides compilation or a stopgap demo collection between albums or what, but it's really goddamn good. The noisy production is appropriate considering how layered it feels. 10 points to Jeph for reminding me to listen to them once in a while!

Burzum - War

"This is.....WAR!"

Oh, Varg, you're a homicidal nazi nutcase, but PLEASE MAKE SOME MORE BURZUM ALBUMS WHEN YOU COME OUT PRISON.

And please not let them suck like all the stuff Jon Nodtveidt did after they let him out.

I realised with a shock recently that Varg is pretty much the only old-school black metal criminal still inside. Nodtveidt, Samoth, Faust, Schauseil, Kirkner...all skipping happily through the forests of Mother North. Well, Hendrik Mobus is still going to be inside for a long time, but he's a twat, and Absurd were never that good.

Jeff Wayne - The Eve of the War

No one would have believed, in the last years of the nineteenth century, that human affairs were being watched from the timeless worlds of space. No one could have dreamed we were being scrutinized, as someone with a microscope studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. Few men even considered the possibility of life on other planets and yet, across the gulf of space, minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this Earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely, they drew their plans against us..."

DUM DUM DUUUUUUM!

One of the ten best prog albums ever? I think so!

Jeff Wayne - Spirit of Man

Okay. It is fucking illegal that Dio has not covered this. Get him on it RIGHT NOW. If there is one song in the universe begging to be turned into old-school metal, it is this.

"THE DEMONS INSIDE THEM GREW AND GREW,
TILL SATAN GAVE HIS SIGNAL...
AND DESTROYED THE WORLD WE KNEW!"
