New to Indie!

Jeff311:
Im pretty much new to the indie scene too, but I may have some suggestions.  I started out like you, listening to punk, but it wasnt my thing.

Since you like pop, I think you might like Stars and Rilo Kiley.  [PS: I love Tegan and Sara (indie or not?  whatever)].  Also, some you've already read about, Broken Social Scene, Flaming Lips, The Shins, The Decemberists Talking Heads (an old personal fav).  Get a taste of everything.  There is plenty to go around.

Tomservo:
I would suggest
"The Bends" or "OK Compter" by Radiohead (the less weird radiohead albums)
The Dandy Warhols
Beck
Cake
Spoon

Bunnyman:
A self-styled "pop whore" would probably get a kick out of The Notwist's Neon Golden, and perhaps Dntel's "Life is Full of Possibilities."

Afterwards, you'll want to listen to stuff that could be considerred a bit weirder and maybe more difficult to get into. Try Broken Social Scene. Arcade fire.

Modest Mouse easier to get into than Arcade Fire? Whoa. To me Modest Mouse sound just a tiny bit "odd", while Arcade Fire are definitely relatively easy to get into, and overall pleasant.

InterstateEight:
Go buy The Moon and Antarctica by Modest Mouse. I promise that you will be happy for it.
