Essential metal albums?

<< < (6/9) > >>

KharBevNor:
Ah, your personal 20...I see what you were going for. Your personal essential metal albums. Sorry to jump on ya.

Mine would probably be:

Acid Bath - Paegan Terrorism Tactics
Agalloch - Pale Folklore
Amorphis - Tales From the Thousand Lakes
Ancient Rites - Dim Carcosa
Bathory - Blood on Ice
Burzum - Burzum
Carpathian Forest - Defending the Throne of Evil
Crotchduster - Big Fat Box of Shit
Edge of Sanity - Purgatory Afterglow
Ewigkeit - Radio Ixtlan
Finntroll - Midnatten's Widunder
Immortal - Damned in Black
Mercyful Fate - Melissa
My Dying Bride - Turn Loose the Swans
Skyclad - Prince of the Poverty Line
Star One - Space Metal
Therion - Lemuria
Venom - Black Metal
Waylander - Reawakening Pride Once Lost
Wuthering Heights - Far From the Madding Crowd

Yeah, I mean, mine would be a lot more subjective, looking at it. Five star albums all though.

Also, I totally love this topic.

LightThievesAll:
The greatest heavy metal album of all time is "Reign in Blood."  There is no room for argument on this fact, I will never change my mind, not even with a car battery hooked up to my nipples.

Other shit that totally rules:

Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten
Motörhead - No Sleep 'til Hammersmith
Life of Agony - River Runs Red
Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
Carcass - Necroticism
Napalm Death - Scum/From Enslavement to Obliteration
Deicide - Deicide
Exhumed - Gore Metal
Bolt Thrower - Warmaster
Helmet - Meantime
Marduk - Heaven Shall Burn...
Mastodon - Leviathan
Nile - Amongst the Catacombs of the Nephran-Ka

I dunno, that's just some rad shit I've been listening to lately.  Atheist and Suffocation especially.

Now I gots to get some mammal sauce.

a pack of wolves:
That's the best list yet, since it includes Nile, Helmet, Deicide and Bolt Thrower.

Vlishgnath:
I'll always consider Nile fairly revolutionary.  Karl being one of the coolest guys I've ever known notwithstanding, Nephren-Ka was amazing.  No one else punished a theory so much as they did and still made every track enjoyable.  Harmonic minor never sounded so good.

Catatonik:
Nile are one of those bands that overwhelmed me on my first listen and it took two more listens for me to understand and appreciate what I was hearing.

They ARE brilliant and Sanders is a superb composer.
