Patrick:
First song I ever learned? Cream's "White Room." Can't get any more badass. Fairly simple chord structure too.

Mr Blue Sky:
First song was Cat Steven's Wild World.

But I would recomend Red Hot Chilli Peppers songs to begin with, they are relatively easy and mostly good (if quite similar).

To start out on????? Are you nuts?

That was me being sarcastic.

E. Spaceman:
I only know three songs on guitar: What goes on by the Velvet Underground, The State I'm in by Belle and Sebastian and Jolene by Dolly Parton. I'd suggest that if you want indie type guitars you learn some Death Cab for Cutie, pretty simple guitars.

Awesome.  That reminds me.  Once I get my guitar from home, I'm gonna have to learn to play as much of Crossroads as I can, because that is one of the all-time most awesome songs, ever made, ever.  How many songs have every member of the band doing a solo at the same time for more than a minute?  Not a lot.
