Also the fact that I'm pretty sure three of them are owned by different companies that wouldn't give Nintendo the characters for use (Mallow and Geno by Squaresoft and K.Rool by Rare who work for Microsoft now). I call shennanigans.

yeah, good point. Though i thought I'd just throw that out there

Actually my friend has a connection with some guy he knows from Japan who has the Japan version of the game. Though I do tend to be gullible so I wouldn't doubt the fact that he's pulling my leg. i still think it would be cool if Geno and Mallow joined the fray though.

However, I actually wouldn't be surprised to see Geno, since Super Mario RPG is heading for the Virtual Console. I would be really, really excited, though.

I really don't know who owns the characters created for Super Mario RPG. I mean, it was published by Nintendo. Besides which, Square isn't really doing anything with those characters, so I'm sure Nintendo could pick the rights up for cheap if they really wanted to.

But yeah, some of the additions to that list caused me to raise some eyebrows. As much as I love the Fire Emblem series, they wouldn't put that many characters in Brawl. Also every major character in Earthbound? Toad, considering he's already used as one of Peach's special moves?

It would be pretty rad if some guys from Punch-Out showed up though.

Ew, Krysyal. She won't be in it. No way is that list correct. I don't think that everyone from Melee is going to return and I don't think it'll be a huuuuge roster.

My friend and I are drooling about it right now. Guys do you see that picture in the Zero Suit Samus tether recovery update? As my friend pointed out, CLEARLY Eldin Bridge. She is like "I HAVE SLAIN CREATURES ON THAT BRIDGE" :DDDDD

The point isn't the tether. The point is that Eldin Bridge will be a stage! They just haven't announced it yet. By "she," I meant my friend, not Samus. We sit around and play Twilight Princess together and a Twilight Princess stage EXCITES US. A LOT.

That list of characters is total bullshit. Fanboys on Gamefaqs are always going on about how they want Geno and Mallow in the game, and I'd be amazed if they had Sonic and Tails in it.

From the looks of it they are intertwining all of the powers Yoshi had in Super Mario World into one move. You got the wings and the fire breathe in one sweet combination! I personally didn't see that coming. I kind of was expecting a sort of "swallow an enemy whole" kind of move.

I doubt the Smash Bros. team would force you to play as a certain character, because that would violate the spirit of the game, and they clearly showed other characters going through the Subspace Emissary levels when they first revealed it. I guess there's going to be branching story paths for each character, which is a pretty awesomely ambitious undertaking.

from the looks of it it seems to auto-select your characters for the Subspace Emissionary. I actually think this is a great idea! It leaves more possibilities for the story.

I think story branches are an awful idea! They do this alot in Sonic games and it just makes the story itself soooo short.

Rare was purchased by Microsoft, so they're effectively the same thing now.

And Diddy Kong is still part of the Donkey Kong thing, which Nintendo obviously owned long before Rare came into the picture. Rare was functioning in second-party capacity during the Donkey Kong Country/Banjo-Kazooie days, where Nintendo didn't own them specifically but Rare only made games for Nintendo systems (the modern equivalent would be Insomniac or Naughty Dog and Sony). The difference is that Donkey Kong was an established property that Nintendo owned, whereas Rare created Banjo-Kazooie themselves, and thus Microsoft got the rights to that when they bought Rare.

Well, supposedly Banjo-Kazooie 3 is in the works, but it's for the 360, not any Nintendo system.

My go-to guy in Melee is Marth, but I'll have to mess around with the new characters to see who I feel the most comfortable with.

I hope peach can do that, because she basically was able to last game (well hover, but it still helped). and Ice climbers could SO be in the game, they need alot of recovery techniques though. and better jumping, like...

See Peach can stay still (in hover mode) as well as drift sideways and could change directions (in both hover and umbrella). I hope she gets a small buff in the speed department to make up for her losing that edge; though it might encourage more people to get in the air and let me neutral-a them to hell and back.

I think Nintendo retains all the rights to all properties and characters pertaining to the Donkey Kong games, including Diddy, Dixie, Cranky, Funky, and all the other Kongs that nobody remembers nor cares about, as well as King K. Rool and the Kremlins (which is why they showed up as goalies in Mario Strikers) and etc. In addition, I think they own all the characters from Diddy Kong Racing, with the exceptions of Banjo and Conker.

It's pretty much the same deal as the Sonic the Hedgehog comics that Archie Comics made, as well as DIC's cartoon series. Any additional characters that those companies created automatically became properties of Sega.

At least we're past A and B moves.

Now we just have to endure moving around, difference between tilt and tap, shielding, and jumping (maybe?).

Also, I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed in the videos, but it looks like the roll-dodge has been edited somewhat.
Specifically: So that it acts more like a wave-dash.

Right now, Pit and metaknight both have been seen sliding back behind an enemy (I think it's Wario both times) without really "roll dodging". Just a nice smmooooth slide.

What do we think of this?
