Maybe he'll be replaced with Raiden in the actual release.
I'm still hoping they'll put the MGS1 Ninja in there.  And since Konami are letting them have one character, why not more?  Alucard?  [insert name here] Belmont?

I discussed this with my brother the other day: Snake just seems entirely out of place. I think Simon Belmont would've been a much better choice of a Konami character.

With all his side weapons (Axes, crosses) and his whip (Perfect for a recovery move), he would have been a perfect fit.

The Belmonts don't really have 'character'. Lets face it, Castlevania never had a plot.
Hideo Kojima LOVES his Snake character, and the character has a LOT of fans.
Snake is probably going to be a major selling point, and create more hype and excitement than any Belmont ever could.

Hideo Kojima loves his character Solid Snake. And he loves Nintendo and the Smash Brothers series. Snake making it into Smash Brothers must be a dream come true for the guy, and to me that is reason enough to have him in there.

that reminds me, I would love to see some MGS support trophies.   I was thinking a The End one would be cool, but I don't know how it would work.

Plus, you're gay for Snake.

Personally, I don't see what's wrong with having Snake in there. I mean, you've got Samus with her crazy futuristic weaponry. And also, Kojima was the one who came up with the idea of having Snake in a Smash Brothers game, not Konami. Konami obviously had to give permission, but considering they should be bending over backwards to make Kojima happy, I'm sure they were not too resistant to the idea.

If we're talking support trophies, how about one of the Metal Gears?  Rex or Ray would be awesome.
Actually, I think most of the bosses would work in one way or another.

I still dont like it. He really doesnt fit in with the other characters.

It should've been the castlevania character. That'd made awesome sense.

Considering the disgusting hype Brawl has gotten, I don't think it really needed Snake for a major selling point. It's Smash Bros. THAT is a major selling point.

Futuristic weaponry is one thing, but Snake doesn't really seem to fit the vibe of the game. Considering it's a fighting game, I don't see what the idea of a plot has to do with why a character should be there. Simon just fits the vibe of the game better.

But again, it wasn't Konami's idea, it was Kojima's, so of course he's going to put his own character in there. For all we know, maybe a Belmont is in there too.

EPIC FRIDAY MUSIC UPDATE.

Two songs (including Nobuo Uematsu's awesome main theme) and the reveal of the ability to choose from many, many possibilities for stage music.

Mama from cooking mama would be downright hilarious to play. She would dual wield a cutting knife and a cleaver. She can pour hot soup to burn opponents and make the ground slippery. She could set jello traps, making smashers incredibly slow. And her super move can be her turning into a dragon. I dont know what her recovery/jumpie attack would be though. Any ideas?

It's too late to suggest characters anyway. The game comes out in less than three months; I'm pretty sure they long since nailed down the final roster.

Well, this kind of obliterates some character rumors.

Baby Mario and Baby Luigi could've been a ice climbers rip off. But now with the "I SAY NO TO CLONES!" campaign the internet's been having, the babies will probably not be in the game.

its like playing versus 3 randomized computer AIs.  it doenst make sense, and its pointless.  youd have to communicate over the phone or through like your computer or some shit.  fucking the worst.  so pissed.

I still want to see more new characters.
Even more, I want to see a lot more old characters make a return.
Roy and Marth were fun, and Falco was a favorite of mine. Then there was the awesome telekinesis you got with Mewtwo, and what about Ness? Where is Ganondorf?

Well, they never reveal ALL of the characters. Considering that Marth, Roy, Ganondorf, Falco, and Mewtwo were ALL secret caracters in Melee (and Ness was in the original), I wouldn't say that they have yet to be revealed is evidence they've been cut. I hope not at least. Marth was my go-to character in Melee, and I actually liked Ganondorf quite a bit too.

Speaking of new characters, one was just revealed now! It's Lucas, the protagonist of Mother 3, better known as the sequel to Earthbound that never made it outside of Japan. Maybe they'll pull a Fire Emblem and localize Mother 3 if he's a popular character.
