Yay, first post.

I'm feeling horribly out of place here, but I'm currently listening to the most recent Front Line Assembly album, Artificial Soldier. And I find it vaguely ironic that they now sound like... well, just about every other Industrial band out there, just with more of a tendancy towards Gibson references, and fans are praising them for "setting a new standard in the genre with this one".

Meat Loaf - Paradise by the Dashboard Light

It's one of those songs that I never openly admit to liking... but if it's playing, and no one's around, I dance and stuff. And sing along. Especially the girl parts. STOP RIGHT THEEEEEEEERE I GOTTA KNOW RIGHT NOOOOOOWWWWW

Also, brings me back to those "Begging for sex days."

Admittedly, not much has changed with the whole begging thing... I just don't have "teen" in my age anymore.

I really couldn't blame you. FLA is, moreso than most bands, not for everyone. In fact, I've really yet to find someone who likes their entire catalogue. Everyone seems to have a favorite era for them - their earlier stuff is better, in my opinion.

That said, remixes and covers of their stuff seem to generally be more acessable, to most people.

I like a lot of their 'similiar artists' and everything (Front 242, Skinny Puppy, KMFDM, Covenant and Assemblage 23, according to last.fm). I probably just need to hear the right tracks.

Nattefrost - Nekronaut (Cunt Cunt Gimme More)

YOU'RE GOING TO DIEEEEE!

I fucking love Nattefrost. It's like Carpathian Forest's 'He's Turning Blue' made into a whole band.

...aaaaand change to

Murderdolls - Dead in Hollywood

Man, why did that mofo Jordison have to get mixed up with Wednesday 13 and fuck everything up with tons of 14 year old sheep fans.

Whatever, this is still pretty much classic Frankenstein Drag Queens with a bit better production.

From what little I've heard, Murderdolls > Wednesday 13, depite my roommate's protests to it being the other way around.

As for current music, I'm switching to the second CD I bought today, now that I've listened to Artificial Soldier a few times and decided that it's not really for me. This is another industrial selection; Cannibal Anthems by :Wumpscut:. And, from what the opening track and the stuff from the EP before this sound like, I'm thrilled with it so far. It seems like he's going back to his previous, more energetic sound - and given the mixed reactions that the last CD got, I think I can see why.

His solo shit has a lot of weak songs, but there's some good stuff. He's better when he sticks to the formula he's long established, with tracks like God is a Lie, Bad Things and Look What The Bats Dragged In. There's also a feeling that he's got a bit more serious on Transylvania 90210, which doesn't fit his musical style or image at all. All of the stuff Wednesday 13's done might as well be the same band though. I personally prefer the Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13: half of the Murderdolls songs actually are just redone FDGFP13 songs. All of it's fun music though.

Talking about it, I'm on a W13 megamix now. The Murderdolls - Dressed to Depress.

I love everything I have heard by her. Her former band The Sugarcubes are also good. I haven't heard Drawing Restraint 9 which really is a mistake since it's got Will Oldham on it.
She has a song in Danish called Nu Flyver Anton(Now Flies Anton) and it is quite cute :)

Burzum - Daudi Baldrs

I only really like Hlidskjalf and Daudi Baldrs, Filosofem and earlier stuff doesn't really appeal to me.
The repetitive banging away on his guitar is a bit dull. The screams are fine and all but it gets a bit longwinded.

As usual, I'm listening to my favorite japanese female artist, Shiina Ringo.

This is the one of the songs played with her new band, Tokyo Jihen- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7O-IDGXRgE (Himitsu for DJ). It has a jazzy feel to it, accompanied by a really horrible rap interlude in the middle of the song.

Magma - Malawelekaahm

I've heard that this album is also considered a Christian Vander solo album, but it had most of the Magma crew from that period. The album, Wurdah Itah, is the soundtrack to a movie called Tristan et Iseult...if only this were the soundtrack to the more recent version that was made... Anyway, Magma is the founding band of a genre known as Zeuhl, which is a pretty idiosyncratic subgenre of prog-rock, and includes some Magma spinoff bands as well as more recent bands such as Ruins and The Flying Luttenbachers. Of course, the more recent bands have a much more stripped down timbral pallette and are much more concerned with overall violence/wackiness, whereas the original sound is much more heavily orchestrated. Trademarks of the genre include minimalist-derived developmental repetition, compound time signatures, a strong jazz influence (sometimes bordering on free jazz), a strong operatic classical influence (less present in instrumental examples of the genre) and a strong emphasis on bass/drum interplay, sometimes utilizing two bassists.

i love the album with no musical instruments on it it's really out there it's called medulla. it's just totally vocal

The screams are fine and all but it gets a bit longwinded.

i have drawing restraint 9 it's got it's good points and it's bad points but it's definitely worth listening to!

Current 93 - Sleep Has His House

It's a live recording from a show with Antony and the Johnsons.  It's pretty incredible, I need to get me some more Current 93.

Klaus Doldingers "The Neverending Story Motion Picture Soundtrack"

Ah, nostalgia. I can't believe this movie came out four years before I was born.

Silkworm - Waiting on a Train.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

Memorial - Explosions in the Sky

This was the first song I heard by EITS, and it remains one of my favorites.
