I've known people who have gone grey even earlier than you, and all I can tell you is that if you do start dying your hair, go to a professional. Boxed stuff is ok when you're just looking for a temporary change in color, but for something permanent you will completely fuck your hair. I know a good place in West Hartford to go for your hair, but that's about $100 for the dye alone, so you will probably find somewhere cheaper around Storrs

GUYS GUYS GUYS HALP.

I'm 20 and I already am starting to get some grey hairs. This is making me super sad. Should I dye my hair, or just let it keep going with the random, sparse greys? Also, my hair is really long and a boring mousy brown color.

Aside from its length, we have the same hair  Mine turns blond in the sun of all things. My forebears are rolling in their smallpox infested blankets over it I'm sure. My grandmother use to tell me there was a white boy in the woodpile. Of course, there was: half my family is scotch-irish.

I'd think you're too young to be letting your hair go grey unless you're a goth. Then you should encourage the look and Enjoy the notoriety.

I guess I'm one of the few people who gets excited when I find white hairs. I also get sad when my friends find one and pull it without asking.

Gilead, keep the chops. Or shave silly designs into them before you cut them off, for our sake.

And pugs, I was torn between being sad and laughing. That movie still makes me teary, but I guess because it's small and not animated that makes it slightly silly? I don't know!

I actually really like that idea, Jens.  If you shave it, it'll be back at buzz length in a couple of weeks, and then you'll finally know what you look like with a shaved head.  Plus, if it's a good time in your life to make such a drastic change, then you're better off doing it now than waiting until you've got a job and think your boss wouldn't like it, or you've got a girlfriend who begs you not to do it, or you feel like you're too old to do something so, uh, punk.

Do it.

(I secretly really want to know what I look like with a shaved head, but I don't have the guts.  If you do, more power to you.)

Jens instead of just shaving it I hear all the punk kids nowadays are doing this thing where you shave off all but a piece in the middle and then you put it up.

Like I hear that is pretty punx

Honestly I'd say that now your sporting pretty short hair you definitely should lose the chops (as much as I love them so) although a pair of shaped sideburns could do nicely. Care to take a pic of the haircut from the front?

There's just no fucking name for a floppy mohawk type thing with the sides short but not buzzed.

The whole point of a fauxhawk is that you don't have buzzed sides.

Pardon the David Beckham, but when I hear fauxhawk I think of something more like this:

The top and sides are nearly equal in length, it's just that the top has been styled to go upwards instead of sideways or forwards. What Tom has is much closer to a real mohawk because the top and sides are nowhere near the same length

These are my thoughts.

I was discussing it with Nikki too, her opinion is with Spluff's, and I agree with you Liz, that when I think of fauxhawks I think of graduated hair length. Tom's just looks like a regular mohawk but grown out.

My new stylist was strongly in favor of giving me a spikily styled cut that sounded suspiciously like a fauxhawk when I finally got my hair cut last month, but I nixed it.

BTW, this also means I pretty much went in the exact opposite direction of the hair advice I recieved through this forum;, plus I went something like 8 months without any sort of cutting. I have this bad habit of deciding I just don't give a crap about my appearance in any way whatsoever (well, other than staying clean; I can't abide smelly). I really have to stop doing that.

Mandatory Julia hitting on Tom comment. Even if it wasn't you, I'd still really like it. I'm a big fan of that 'grown out mohawk' look.

ALSO: I am finally getting a haircut this week. A legitimate one. The grown-out 12$ Chinatown haircut simply will not do anymore.

I agree with Tom and Liz. Either way, I want something more like Tom and less like Beckham.

Is there product in your hair in that picture or does your hair just naturally grow like that at that length?

Guys I am having a haircut! On Thursday! For the first time since June!

I am thinking of having it cut to shoulder length, and a sort of fringe a bit like a curtain. I can't really describe it but I know what I don't want and that is a stylish sort of bob with a fringe. There are about twenty girls with the same haircut in my year and I don't want to join their ranks, but I think it's time to have a hair style.

Here is the most recent photo of my hair, cross-posted from the Scavenger Hunt thread:

Mostly it's fastened back in a ponytail because there's not much I can do with it, and it has hellof split ends.

I love your hair, it's so pretty!  Definitely cut off all the dead stuff, and maybe do some layers?  It'd give it some nice body.  I think fringe would look excellent on you.  Side swipe maybe?

Before you chop it all off, though, definitely look through some magazines and stuff.  Your cut should depend on how much work you want to put into the style.  Let us know the outcome!

Makes me think of kids in high school who had to get hair cuts and didn't want to. They'd shave the sides, sport a weird fuzz-hawk like that for a few days to piss off their parents, then shave the remaining bit off.

Hm. I kind of don't really see anyone getting fired for a haircut here? Not hired, maybe, but there are pretty strict laws protecting workers, and that includes limitations on why you can fire people, I thought? Dunno, I may be putting too much trust in these things, and I guess it's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to that kind of thing.

Anyways, can't say I'm a huge fan of that haircut, but maybe mostly because the hair on the guy in the bottom pic reminds me of a certain type of door mats.

I hate those babyhawks!!!!!!! Jens, your hair would look good if the hawk was two or three inches long and you didn't spike it. Just left it flopped to the side so it was almost more of a deep side part comboverhawk.

So, I just bleached my bangs and girlburns/sidelocks/whatever you call them.  For now my hair is a fabulous disgusting orange, but should I dye them blue, pink, or purple (or some other color) next?

Also, would it look really weird if I shaved everything but my bangs?  Kind of a modified chelsea, I guess.

(excuse the combover-hawk)

I'm just always too lazy to put my hawk up and it gets kind of annoying sometimes.  So I dunno what the fix is besides buzzing it off.

Chelsea haircuts are an awful, awful idea.

Jens if you can't spike your hair at least do what this dude has going on in the first few moments of this video. Baby-hawks are strange looking and won't do much for you. That said, I think you have a great head shape for a mohawk.
