You should never use someone else's mascara or you could get some sort of bacterial infection.  It's unlikely, but it does happen.

Krina:
Question:

What is the correct place to apply Mascara? I mean, I think I know the general area (rather under your eye than on your toes, I've heard people say), but do you people draw it onto that ridge of skin ABOVE that little row of hairs lower than your eyeball (no idea what they are called), or BENEATH those hairs? I have seen different people and different make-up artists do it both ways, so I'm wondering if it is just a question of personal style or if there is a "correct" and "wrong" place to paint it? When I first used Kohl, I was still wearing black clothes and had black hair and my temple was the goth disco, and all that mattered in those days was to apply A LOT of black around your eyes, nevermind where exactly.

redglasscurls:
Are you talking about eyeliner,

 or mascara?

redglasscurls:
double post to add that I put eyeliner UNDER the little lash row, since I have dark eyelashes to start with and it scares me to draw on the top bit since it kind of feels like my eyeball.

Krina:
Sorry I wasn't clearer, I'm obviously not that make-up savvy! I'm talking about the stuff that you apply under your eye with a pen-ish thingy. She has it in this picture in black: (http://images.fashionmodeldirectory.com/model/000000091554-jira_kohl-fullsize.jpg) It tends to say "kohl" on the pens. Do you know what I'm talking about?
