Rules:

No hot-linking images or albums. You can re-host images at http://www.photobucket.com or at http://imageshack.us

Ensure your tags are correct and that you have specified both Artist/Album in your post.

Upload your files in either a .zip or a .rar archive to mediaf!re.com, in multiple parts if the album is over 100mbs. The reason for this is that we know mediaf!re is safe and efficient and allows multiple downloads. The ads on other sites, such as Sendspace, are known to contain viruses on the page. Get yourself checked out.

Post your link using code tags. It's the # icon above the afro emoticon. This prevents the links from being traced back to the forums, lowering the chance that the wrong people notice the thread, potentially threatening Jeph with legal action.

Do NOT request albums, it's annoying. Requests that have been disguised are not allowed either.

Repost the rules at the top of each new page.

With tongue firmly in cheek, the Cardigans decided to play up the candyfloss arrangements of their debut for second album Life. Where Emmerdale studied an introverted melancholy, Life is undiminished in both its independent-minded exuberance ("Hey! Get Out of My Way") and zest to enjoy life with others ("Daddy's Car," "Gordon's Gardenparty"). The incredible production and quality of arrangement from the debut are here also, even more strikingly crisp and spot-on. (Over 50 instruments were used on the 14 songs included on the Minty Fresh American release.) Though the Cardigans planned Life as something of a joke, it became one of the finest pop albums of the '90s.

I downloaded that Té CD that was uploaded a few pages back, and after much confusion of having two CDs with the same song titles but a completely different tracklist,  I've established that the one which was uploaded here is mislabeled, and is actually their 2007 release, "Te Sore Wa Narihibiku Sekai Kara Genjitsuteki Na" ("It Be The Thinking As 'the Song' Of Realistic Sound From The World Which Resounds")

From what I can gather, the correct English tracklist should read:
01 - That It Makes Nonexistent Intelligence Even Although It Calls It With A Powerful Mind And Power How To 'none' Equa'
02 - Without Having The Word That Even, A Beautiful Melody Tells Sound Does To Heart That It Does It
03 - It 'be Done And Maintain' Only With The Modest Religious Service Of From Day To Day Just As Even The Faith Is Same Even The Love
04 - One, That Does Not Require Tomorrow Most Stands In Tomorrow Most Gladly And Buy 'direction'
05 - The Boldness Is The Child Of Ignorance And Meanness And Considerably Than Other Qualifications
06 - Person Who It Plays By Using A/the Word Not To A Plain Memory, Without Existing In A/the Talent
07 - Moderation And Justice Are 'the Name' That The Only Superior Can Use Selfishly Merely
08 - Heart Be 'the Made Of Outlet In The Direction Of Athe Lie When It Has Lacked A Correct Goal
09 - It Not And Do Athe Foam To Any Pain And Happiness Be 'athe Call' He How Many People
10 - Human Being Is Doing The Ability That Destroys Self Oneself By Reason

It seems poorly translated to me, none of them really make any sense. If you'd rather, the japanese names are available here.

And thanks for the download! it's really good! I can upload the real "If that is what is being thought, liberated sound talks the depth of "musical" world" if anyone wants.

I have Ivor Cutler's Dandruff if anyone wants it. Although I didn't listen to any of those Jim Parker albums I think it's the same kind of idea. Humourous songs and poems with music behind them. Some of them are very funny, but the humour may be lost if you're not Scottish.

I'm about to upload Hanggai's album, Introducing Hanggai (I got onto to these guys from randomly clicking on peoples "neighbours" on lastfm last Saturday), Women's self-titled debut, Second to the Last Frontier by Feral Children and probably Neneh Cherry's Raw Like Sushi.

Neneh Cherry - Raw Like Sushi

Quote from: allmusic
Those arguing that the most individualistic R&B and dance music of the late '80s and early to mid-'90s came out of Britain could point to Neneh Cherry's unconventional Raw Like Sushi as a shining example. An unorthodox and brilliantly daring blend of R&B, rap, pop, and dance music, Sushi enjoyed little exposure on America's conservative, urban, contemporary radio formats, but was a definite underground hit. Full of personality, the singer/rapper is as thought-provoking as she is witty and humorous when addressing relationships and taking aim at less-than-kosher behavior of males and females alike. Macho homeboys and Casanovas take a pounding on "So Here I Come" and the hit "Buffalo Stance," while women who are shallow, cold-hearted, or materialistic get lambasted on "Phoney Ladies," "Heart," and "Inna City Mamma." Cherry's idealism comes through loud and clear on "The Next Generation," a plea to take responsibility for one's sexual actions and give children the respect and attention they deserve.

Hanggai - Introducing Hanggai

Quote from: pitchfork
Sometimes, an album takes you so by surprise that it takes days to get your mind around just how much you like it. Hanggai's debut was like that for me-- this record floored me the first time I played it. Simply described, this album takes traditional Mongolian folk music and instrumentation and projects them into a loosely rock-based structure. This is not really a folk album, though it sometimes has the feel of one. Producers Robin Haller and Matteo Scumaci, Westerners both, allow the band to straddle the folk and pop worlds, creating something new and exhilarating in the process.

Hanggai are a Beijing-based sextet of Mongolian musicians, a few of whom originally hail from China's Inner Mongolia province. Two of the members play the morin khuur (horse-hair fiddle), and while another plays the tobshuur, a two-stringed lute, and these instruments comprise the foundation of their sound. Tobshuur player and bandleader Ilchi was formerly in a Beijing punk group and put this band together after hearing the traditional khoomei throat-singing technique. Enthralled by the sound of this centuries-old singing style, he went to Inner Mongolia to learn it, where he ultimately met fiddle players Hugejiltu and Bagen. The combination of the group members' raspy, deep throat singing with a Western compositional sense of tension, build-up, and release is hard to describe apart from saying that it works very well.

It is rare that such attempts to modernize (read: Westernize) traditional folk forms actually enhance the power of the music, but that is the case here. Haller and Scumaci's very subtle additions of electric guitar, bass, and electronic textural elements nicely complement the traditional instrumentation-- the fiddles can produce long drones or billowing melodic figures, and the tobshuur is often used to give the songs a heart-racing rhythmic underpinning, with the help of some hand percussion.

The album's stunning centerpiece, "Five Heroes", opens with a long passage of throat-singing, with one member producing a steady, low drone while another manipulates the high, whistling overtones produced by it. The minimal guitar part has elements of surf, and is later used to inject a long, descending phrase between the verses. It's stunningly dramatic, and on hearing it my wife remarked that, even though they were singing in Mongol, she could feel the storytelling taking place in the lyrics. I have to agree.

The album is well-balanced between up-tempo and down-tempo offerings, and fast, rhythmic tracks like "Flowers". The natural ease with which these young musicians fit their mother culture's traditional musical arsenal into structures provided by another culture is remarkable-- unlike that horrible Yat-Kha album with the awkward throat-singing covers of Joy Division and Motörhead from a few years ago, there is never a sense of novelty in this music, just the sense that these unique, singular traditions can have a place in music moving forward.

And that's perhaps the biggest reason that Hanggai's debut is an unmitigated success. It distills everything powerful about Mongolian folk music and makes something new from the ingredients. If you like this, I recommend trying out some actual traditional Mongolian music, though an understanding of it isn't remotely necessary to enjoy Hanggai. As it is, if you've never heard throat-singing or given a second (or even first) thought to Central Asian music, this album is a great place to start. Moreover, it succeeds on a purer level than that, as transcendently powerful music that anyone from anywhere can understand.

Feral Children - Second to the Last Frontier

Quote from: pop apocalypse
On my last blog, I posted Feral Children's SXSW EP, a four song sampler showcasing some of the Seattle quintet's strongest tracks to date. If you were a fan of that EP, you'll be happy to know that all four of those songs can be found on Second To The Last Frontier, Feral Children's reissued full length, due out on July 8th. Although it may be a reissue, this album is Feral Children's grand introduction to fans outside the Seattle area, and it's safe to say they come out swinging. Their raw and unruly, Yeasayer meets Modest Mouse sound, seeps from each of the twelve tracks on Frontier. The album opens with singers Jim Cotton and Jeff Keenan trading vocal yelps on "Spy/Glass House," and never once settles down, or allows the listener to predict what they're going to hear next. "Billionaires vs Millionaires" is the best song that Modest Mouse never wrote, while "Jaundice Giraffe" is creepy in the best way possible, with its haunting vocal harmonies, echoed guitar riffs, and a refrain of "They love your skin / They love your yellow skin, they do."

A handful of tracks later and Frontier delivers another one two punch with "Cannibal Prison" and "Lost In The Woods," the former focusing on Cotton's commanding vocals, with piano and guitar scales that beautifully crash into one another, and the latter a seven-minute plus epic that is Feral Children at their most restrained. Just like on their EP, "Zyghost" closes the album wonderfully, summing up the entire album with its galloping chords, tribal-sounding drums, and driven bass line. Not very often does an album come along where recommending every track feels appropriate, but in this case, it's hard to refrain from listing every song in the "Recommended" section below. Take that as your cue--download this album. Tell everyone you know about this band. We need more music like this in the world.

Women - Women

Quote from: pop apocalypse
A few readers recommended the band Women to me recently and since I had heard that Chad VanGaalen produced their debut album, I knew I had to check them out. Based out of Calgary, the quartet consists of two brothers and, uh, two other guys. They have toured the US as part of VanGaalen's backing band, as well as in the Absolutely Kosher band, Azeda Booth. Their self-titled debut is due in stores on July 8th and is likely to be the most underrated gem of 2008. Combining Velvet Underground creepiness with a heavy dose of noisy effects and psychedelic charm, Women may only be twenty-nine minutes long, but what it lacks in length it more than makes up for in the dense weight of its music. "Cameras" starts the record off beautifully with dirty guitar scrapes and echoed vocals that soon trail off into track two, after only a minute. "Lawncare" carries those elements a bit further, adding clangs of percussion and interweaving riffs. "Black Rice," another standout track, is Women at their catchiest and has already begun to get rave reviews. Critics will most likely try to compare these guys to contemporaries like Animal Collective (because, really, who doesn't get compared to AC these days?), Akron/Family, and Deerhunter, but any serious listener can tell that their sound is deeply rooted in the '60s rather than today. If you're interested in lo-fi sounds, Chad VanGaalen, or noise in general, you need to download this album immediately.

Hey, sorry for disappearing, guys.  I've been out of town for a while.  I'll be back Sunday night and I don't have anything to do this coming week so I'll be able to upload tons of AMT, a couple fat dubstep mixes, and probably a few other things once I get back.  Sit tight for a couple days, I guess.  Right now I'm in Puerto Rico for my cousin's wedding, so I can't exactly contribute.

I'm really, really excited about Trifonic, 2562, and Hanggai.  Oh, and people should get that Kinski album, it's really good.

Hey guys, I was walking around Circular Quay here the other day past some buskers. This is like tourist central, so they were playing aboriginal music and some loud tourist was cheering them on and having a go on the tapping sticks. Anyway, since I always see these people around selling their $10 cd I thought I might get it. See, my friend is going to Ireland for 6months, I thought it might be a good joke going away present. She can use it to convince her irish friends this is all we listen too.

Koomurri - Koomurri Dreaming

So I decided to upload it for funsies. Here's song you don't have to download to hear:
Koomurri - One Fire _Original Mix.mp3

It's kind of a traditional/dance/techno sound, digeridoos and beeps! I'm not scanning in the cover, because well, it's embarrassing. Let's just say it features the outline of Aust, a kangaroo, an emu and Uluru.

They have a wobsite - they sell art and nice proper CDs and stuff. This is the whole album! I have dubbed it 'quite listenable'. Though it's not for everyone.

People seemed to like the old LITE I posted so here is the new album.

LITE - Phantasia

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?xr114djbcju
Quote
Lite is a math rock band from Japan with a very optimistic sound, post rock influences and a much moved/dynamic nature. It’s not every day that you get a math rock band with such an addictive and unique sound, high quality and to say the least with incredible “danceable” energy (easy way to describe their sound). Phantasia is an album with barely no flaws, all the songs have their own essence and peculiar-catchy rhythm like Ghost Dance, Black And White, Solitude and Phantasia to point out a few.

Though being a math rock band, some of the songs seem to be driven by a post rock atmosphere in songs like Shinkai, Interlude, Solitude and Fade. This combination creates a balance and thus making their sound more melodic unlike other math rock bands that tend to create angular melodies.

The introductory song: Ef is one that easily catches the attention of your ears entirely with some sort of heavy riffs and intense drum play (though most songs have this energy outburst of the drummer). Black And White is very good to, with a very post rock oriented intro repeated in the midst of the ending. On the other hand Shinkai has a very atmospheric feel with a crescendo feel in it, as well as Solitude which follows a similar formula. In my opinion one the most standout songs would have to be Ghost Dance. It has the most “danceable” feel in it, just as its name implies, easily followed by Phantasia, which is even more energetic and explosive and the drums are very extreme. The closing song: Sequel to The Letter and Infinite Mirror remind me much of Battles but with a more melodic touch in them and that particular essence that Lite offer.

In conclusion Phantasia is easily one of the best albums of 2008. It’s addictive, energetic, melodic and very well composed with many memorable moments. If you liked Battles then you will have no problem loving this one.

Highly recommended!

Sorry about the reviewers grammar I don't feel like fixing it.

Pump Up The Volume soundtrack (1990)
Soundgarden, Sonic Youth, Pixies, Bad Brains w/ Henry Rollins , and Peter Murphy from Bauhaus all apear on my favorite soundtrack form the 90's (The Crow a very close second). Pixies do an alternate version of "Mutilation Wave" from Doolittle and it's waaaaaaay better than the original. Probably my favorite Pixies song beside "Velouria". We get a younger Soundgarden tearing faces off and the Sonic Youth track is "Titanium Expose" from Goo. Rollins does a pretty good job w/ Bad Brains covering The MC5's "Kick Out The Jams" and Peter Murphy is Peter Murphy so if you like anything from Bauhaus or Dali's Car, you should dig it.

If you were alive and functional in the 90's you will/do adore this album.

The 2562 record is amazing, but maybe not as good as Distance. Dubstep Allstars 6 has 2 of his tracks on it and they fit into the mix really well, but that is a really good mix either way.

I am trying to download that Women album, but Mediafire keeps telling me that the server that the information is on is unavailable.

Still a no-go with the Hanggai guys. I've been regularly trying, re-trying, refreshing and reloading the page, but no luck. Just tantilizingly out of reach!

EDIT: Horrah, it works! Though I still have another hour or 4 to wait. :x Damn unreliable NZ internet.

I've been lurking around here for ages, but I just found this thread (Hadn't thought to look, wow, how dumb was I) and I had to register so I could tell you all how incredibly awesome you are.  Which is Very.  Very, Very, Awesome. :-D

And here's my (tiny as yet) contribution: the new Islands album.

Good deal...this is super good...I've had it for a while and all of the subtle instruments are nice...I especially like the violins in a few tracks

The Cardigans
If anyone was wondering, this is not the studio album Life but the U.S. release, a compilation of tracks from their first two albums in Europe (Emmerdale and Life).

Is the only difference that the 4 tracks from Emmerdale are omitted? I've never been able to find the original release.

That should be good for now.  I'll put up some La Ira de Dios next, they're a stoner/desert/heavy-psych band from South America that have been rocking the shit out of me today.

Until then, I'm just starting into this Trifonic and it is fucking boss so far.  I very strongly second the recommendation on it.

Stoner rock similar to Kyuss: the main riff in "Coomber" is strikingly similar to the main riff in Kyuss - Green Machine. Mustasch released one stoner rock EP (this one) and one cd which was mostly stoner rock before going to a more glam-like style; really sad since their stoner rock material was great. Anyway, enjoy this greatly underappreciated (in stoner rock circles) stoner rock EP.

Sorry for no mediaf!re. This file is just over 200 MB since it is about an hour and forty minutes and is in 320 kbps. Also, I replaced the a with an @, so be sure to change that.

Anyway, this is about the one time a name change with A Silver Mt. Zion is justified. This is a live performance of mostly unreleased songs. This incarnation of A Silver Mt. Zion was made in 2005 for a few shows in Belgium. The group consists of Efrim on vocals/guitar, Ian on electric bass/vocals, Jessica on violin/electric guitar on one song/vocals, Beckie on cello/vocals, Gen (from Hangedup) on viola/vocals and Eric (also from Hangedup) on drums and electronic percussion, who is now their current drummer. It sort of sounds like a bridge between their old and new material. As I stated earlier, everything here is unreleased except for Fuck This Place, a cover of a HangedUp song a cover of Microphones in the Trees. Apparently there exists a studio version of these songs, but whether that will be released remains to be seen. Enjoy!

This album is by Kyuss, it's called And The Circus leaves town, just imagine heavy stoner rock, kinda like Queens of the Stoneage, well, because Josh Homme is the guitarist in the band. He doesn't sing though. Anyway, enjoy. If you like it i have another album i can upload. "Welcome To Sky Valley"
