Also yeah, ditch the soul patch. And if you're riding a motorcycle you should really be thinking function over form, you can get a much much lighter weight cap that are designed to go under helmets and they're not very expensive, just get a plain black one. They're really your best option I think.

So as far as helmets go, I've got to get one because the fine is like 150 dollars if I don't wear one. I am looking into my options of the non-sporty models, any advice on this? I want it to work and protect my head because motorists are scary but I really don't want to look like a big doofus.

Honestly, go for the full-face one. It's totally worth it for the protection. The half shell hardly protects anything and the 3/4 leaves your jaw unprotected. At the place where I took a class to get my license, someone had been wearing a 3/4 and went into a curb, chin-first.

As far as sombreros go, I'd love to attach it to my helmet somehow, but it'd probably just catch the wind and get shredded like those flags people put on their car antennae.

Collapsible top hats are boss, but I really don't think I'm ever dapper enough to pull them off, and one must be dapper to rock a top hat.

When I have time, I'll give hat #2 a go at a store somewhere. We'll see how it works.

*boh* My bad. I'm not really sure there is a way to avoid looking like a doofus with a bicycle helmet. I'll be paying attention to other responses so that I can find out myself.

Full-faced helmets are quite silly, but I'm willing to look silly to avoid getting my face crushed if I have an off, but I also think my next bike is going to be a crotch rocket, so I clearly don't care about image on my motorcycle. I just like that they have a riding position that offers far more control than the cruisers that just feel awkward to me, but I like fast machines and I like to be in control of them.

Man what? Now I know that America has some pretty ridiculous laws, but, really Canada? $150 just because someone isn't wearing a helmet when riding a bicycle. That is messed up.

I ride a bicycle if I don't want excess items (like a jacket, helmet and gloves), so that law would just stop me from riding a bicycle altogether, probably.

In South Carolina, there isn't a fine for not wearing a helmet. Your punishment is when you get in a wreck and your heads insides go all over the pavement. This is how it should be.

As much as I would like to agree with that sentiment, as I understand it the point of such rules/fines is so that, just maybe, we don't have so many people with their brains all over the sidewalk. Saves on streetcleaning fees and the like.

It is best when you tuck all your hair up or pile it on your head under the helmet, because then when you get to wherever and park you can take it off and your hair spills down and you can toss it around slo-mo all advertisement-like.

I'll have to remember to tell any passengers that, as my second helmet is also full-face. And chicks on motorcycles are hotter than they would be not on motorcycles, pretty much always.

Re. soul-patch... you know, this is the first time I've come across that expression. I'm not sure how I feel about it. Think you could really work some nice sideburns, but this opinion might get me a kickin' =P

As you can see, my MO is "put things over things". Hey, it's comfy, and it allows for a lot of diversity...

But most of all I would really appreciate some advice in the same dept. BB's looking: hats.

I really really really want a hat or two, like proper hats with brims and everything. But I have nfi what I'm looking for, what could work on a bobblehead. They all seem to sit too high up or bend my ears down

and the fit is tricky since I have no hair. I've had hats fly right offa my head on more than one occasion

is there any viable alternative that does't involve a chin-strap?

The problem with sideburns for me is that my face hair is black, whereas my regular hair is much lighter (dark blond, really, though I've got shit in my hair in that picture, so it looks darker), and the sideburns would just be an obviously different colour. I'd look kind of like Simon Pegg in "Spaced."

As for hats, it sounds like you're just trying the wrong size of hat. Even after you know your size, some run big and some run small, just like with the rest of clothes.

speaking of facial hair how long does it take you manly men out there to grow a decent beard? I've never had the patience to go more than a few days without shaving (except sideburns but I've really never ever touched my hair there and I only just noticed I had sideburns a few weeks ago), but i'm sort of tempted to try, and if I do, I don't want to give up too early.

To actually answer the question, it seriously depends on who you are. I can grow a reasonable beard in a week or two, but some people can't grow a proper one at all. I'd say give it three weeks, and if it's still looking scruffy and nasty shave it off.

it is pretty much impossible for my boyfriend to grow a decent beard. he has the classic metalhead's goatee, which is funny because it is really just the only place that hair will grow on his face. almost like being a metalhead is in his DNA

a friend of mine was able to grow a full beard, except for a section in the very middle of his chin/neck area. think: reverse landing strip. it was a fine beard, except for that fatal flaw.

I save mine for special occasions, where I have to dress up. Apparently it makes me look like Stevie Ray Vaughn. I don't wear purple, though, it's plain black.
