So I dropped a hair over a grand today buying two suits for job interviews next week.

Typically, I go to Macy's and can find suits that fit pretty good right off the rack. I've dropped a lot of weight recently though and everything I own is either too big, or is old, and until I lose at least a few more pounds, too small.

I really want to get a new job, so I don't want to look anything less than stellar and professional. so today I went to a suit place and had the lady measure me and pick things out for me and make recommendations and all that... They're getting altered now and I think that they're going to look great, but I'm really struggling on an average price of $250 each for two pairs of pants and two jackets. I can't decide if this was a good idea or not.

So fashion advice thread, can the average HR weenie really tell the difference between a two hundred dollar suit, a six hundred dollar suit, a thousand dollar suit, or more? (Because seriously, I don't think that I can).

I wouldn't say it's as simple as being able to look at a suit and guess it's price point. But the thing about getting a suit which is tailored (or even better, built from scratch) to conform to your measurements, is that it gives across an impression that a lot of the time doesn't even operate at a conscious level. People whose clothes fit them very well have better posture and just generally look more put-together than someone in an otherwise comparable bu non-tailored outfit. This is especially important for interviews because like it or not, an interviewer is probably going to make a great deal of their mind up about you based on the first few seconds of seeing and talking to you, so looking confident and capable is paramount.

Plus I don't know about anyone else, but not only do I look more confident, but I actually feel more confident if I look well put-together and that my clothing is complimenting me and the situation I'm in. Dressing for the situation will help get your head in the game.

This might not be real fashion, but I need your help, forum. I recently got my driver's license and a vehicle to drive. The problem is, I wear tight pants. I don't want to have a big bulky keychain in my back pocket, and it has to be back pocket because my other pockets already have jobs. I also don't want to do the clip on to belt loop thing.
The most keys I might have is 4, maybe. Is there any kind of device that would let me keep some keys in my pocket but keep them relatively flat?

What's wrong with keys clipped to the belt loop? I'm considering clipping all my various keys to my belt just for the lulz. Only drawback I can think of is a jingly noise whenever you are not seated.

Really, if you have just 4 keys and keep them on one ring with nothing else, it shouldn't be too bulky. I have 4 keys, a keychain, and a keylight and it doesn't make that big of a bulge, but it's mostly due to the light. If you want something seamless, do the wallet thing.

My keys lie reasonably flat because they are not on a rigid ring but on a wire device. It was a handout from a company, so I've no idea how to get one. Otherwise, some people use string; or a bigger ring may let the keys lie with less interference.

Edit: This is the thing (mine has a Red Hat Linux logo on).

Keeping your keys in your wallet is a bad idea. My friend does that and he's always losing them.

I keep my keys on a carabiner (I guess that's what you're referring to as a clip) on the belt loop slightly behind my right hip and then tuck them into my back pocket, nestled between my wallet and the right edge of the pocket, so that they don't jingle. I find that because the wallet is slightly thicker than the keys, they don't dig into my ass uncomfortably.

I keep mine on a carabiner as well, tucked into my front right pocket. It wouldn't be so bulky if I didn't have an oversized Lego-man torch on there as well. Handy, and getting used to having them there means I always pat my pocket, and if they're not there I make sure to go and get them. I also take the rings that my car keys and work keys are on, off when I'm going out, so I just have my housekeys just in case.

Jussi, I like the idea of those boots but the soles are kind of ugly.

If you're going hiking or doing manual labor outdoors, the soles are perfect but the boots are too fancy.

If you're wearing them for fashion, the boots are cool but the soles are lame.

Try these similar ones instead.

Just thought of something. The problem with putting your keys in your wallet is if it gets stolen, you are fucked. Not only do the people know where you live now, they also can get in your house. Which means the lovely task of getting your locks changed.

The only real point I can think of is that if your pants are so tight that it impedes your capacity to drive or get into locked doors, then you really just need looser pants, because that is ridiculous.

Yeah, It is not always easy for me to retrieve things from my front pockets because my pants are pretty tight in the thighs. It was awful when I cut my finger on some broken porcelain and the bandaid kept slipping off when I used that hand to get out my keys or phone. Buuuut I deal with it? I'm not complaining, really. I do this to myself.

What do you do with your keys when you're wearing a dress or skirt, Lunchy? I'm assuming you have a bag, but I am often having to go back for my keys (not so much at the moment as my landlady is very big on locking things, so I have to have them in order to actually get out of the house in the first place).

I very very very very rarely wear dresses or skirts. Jeans are my uniform!
But when I do wear skirts, I put my keys in my handbag. My handbag is awesome, it is all vintage 50's navy leather.

I only really carry it to work and on weekends though, it is annoying lugging around a bag when you are out.

I wear 510s which are super skinny. It's not that I have a problem fitting the keys in my pocket, it's just sitting on them that I don't want to do.

I wear super skinny pants and occasionally put spare work keys in my back pocket. It's not uncomfortable to sit on them at all, but it does leave a little bump on your nice rump silhouette.

Unless you have a super bony bum, sitting on keys isn't that bad. I sit on mine sometimes. Also, what are you keeping in both of your front pockets that there is absolutely no room for some keys? Guys have deeper pockets than girls, so I'm just curious.

Also, solution to keys + skirt/dress = skirt/dress with POCKETS. Skirts and dresses with pockets are the best things.

I keep my phone and a pencil and pen in my front right pocket and then my iPod and a pair of earbuds in my left. And that is all that can fit in these pockets. I might just get some string or a bigger ring.

I keep a guitar pick in my wallet, and I lose it sometimes. It just slips right out and I don't notice until I need it or I see it lying wherever it is.

I have had pants where I couldn't comfortably fit everything (wallet, phone, mp3 player, earbuds, keys, occasional bandana) in my pockets, but I retired them before long, once my thighs got big enough that I couldn't comfortably wear them with some of my underwear. How do you not snap the pencil in your pocket? Is it a really short one, like they have at libraries, or do your pockets just ride low enough that the pockets don't have any flexing force exerted on them?

Hmmm, i must be doing something wrong... If its friday, at work, and i have the emergency pagerr with me, i lug around:

- My personal mobile
- My work mobile
- The work-call-us-if-the-shit-hits-the-fan mobile
- The emergency pager thingy for when shit hits the fan out of office hours and/or it hits the fan really hard
- Keys on a ring (now reduced to just 2 thankfully), with a tag and beeropener
- Wallet
- Carkeys

How do you people manage to live with so little stuff in your pockets?!

I don't keep things in my pockets except tissues (don't you people ever need tissues? I guess I live in a country that is either full of cold or full of pollen but still!) but my bag currently contains:

Four sets of keys
Bike lights
Purse
Rail card
Coach card
Pen
Assorted receipts
Sandpaper in carrier bag
Assorted loose sheets of paper
Pad of paper
Hairbrush
Leatherman multitool

And often it also has my calendar in it, and sometimes my Bible, and usually a bottle of water. Even the biggest and best of pockets would not take all of these things!

Verergoca, I think most of us probably don't have to carry anything for work. I do, but that is only when I'm at work, and in that case it means I'm carrying around a big tool bag or at least have a few screwdrivers stuffed into unoccupied pockets.

The bandana I have is for emergency nose-blowing, if I can't get to kleenex or paper towels or anything. I prefer not to use it, though, since that is also the cloth I use to clean my glasses, and it doesn't really work when the bandana is full of snot.
