Is the DC metro area a place for philosophy conferences?  Some of my friends went to one there when we were all in college (a few years ago).  I ended up discovering that I don't know the bar scene in DC at all.  Also, there are no places to urinate while riding the metro, which I guess I had known, but I hadn't really internalized.

Somewhat, apparently. I've only been to a few, but two have been held around the DC area. This one (SPEP) was sponsored by George Mason University.

I'm about to embark on a work-funded three hour long boozey lunch as a Melbourne Cup day thing. Wish me luck as a I choke down champagne and gamble away my life savings like a good, patriotic Australian.

So a couple weeks ago Ben Folds played here, and since he has never played here, he was like "OK, I'll do Bitches Ain't Shit" but then he was all "OH WAIT I don't have my band to do the other parts" and my friend was all yelling "I KNOW THE WORDS, I'LL DO IT" so he got on stage and did it. From his story, I was all "yeah whatever dude" thinking he did like a background oooh or something...

he actually did really well

That's awesome!

My piano rock band sometimes does that song, but our singer does all of the singing and the one part done by another member of the band is at the end, where the drummer says "Man, fuck that bitch."  I feel cheated now that I know that I'm supposed to be doing the second verse.

Pat maybe we're not the best people to be telling that to, dogg.

Either you, my customers, my friends who have all ditched me (save for my roomie and my girlfriend), or the town shrink who is a suspected child molester (but no charges were ever brought up). Either way, the suicidal thoughts are just thoughts. I don't want to kill myself, I just sometimes think of it as an option. I've gotten through worse than that before.

Anyway I got a new guitar today so I have been blissfully distracted. It is this:

He has an IQ between 51 and 70?  Because that's the only way I think "literally" could be used it this case.  Somebody walked by my cubicle today saying "We literally burned the shit out of it," and I don't think that "literally" is the word he should have used.  Maybe I'm just taking my current annoyance out on you, in which case I apologize (I will be better aware when I'm more sober), but people do need to stop using that word incorrectly.

I know bananas crank out ethylene into the air, which they use a hormone to synchronise ripening between a shoal* of bananas, and when you have a banana in an enclosed space the ethylene gets trapped and so the bananana and surrounding fruit ripen quicker. Dunno if the ethylene smells bananaery though.

*Bananas are in fact a type of fish.

Hey, guys.  I got in a car accident tonight.  Somebody had stopped to let a guy go across the crosswalk, and the person in front of me slammed on her brakes to avoid hitting this guy.  I didn't even see the car that had stopped because she blocked my view, so I just got on the brakes too late.  I felt the anti-lock kick in because it had been raining, but I ended up hitting her car.  Everyone is fine (well, my left ankle hurts more than usual, but that happens sometimes, so I don't know if it was the accident), but I had to wait for the police officer to come and take down our stories and my car is kind of messed-up so I need to take it in to get bodywork.  Fortunately, the increase in my insurance will be mitigated in a few months when I turn 25.  I'm still annoyed that I need to take time to fix my car.  I barely have enough time as it is.

In other news, I am playing a gig tomorrow night (at least my car still runs).  It is going to be an awesome rock show and we're going to melt everybody's faces.

My mother went to the tax office to pick up my TRN. She went and came upon a massive crowd of people. These people are both applying for, and picking up TRNs. Let's note that previously, those applying for a TRN would go to a completely different room, but he decided to drop everyone in one room. My mother got her number, sat down. Her number was 83. She waited for half an hour, and they called the number 68... A half hour later, they called the number 69.

Of course, my mother being the virago she is, made noise. Security came out and she was ranting for a bit. Security decided to see who was picking up TRNs instead of applying. Half of the people raised their hands. So Sicky took all the people who were collecting, and it took a whopping grand total of two minutes to get my TRN. She then asked why the hell they had to go through all that, and was sent to the manager. My mother asked him why don't they just have two lines, one for people who were collecting, and one for people who were applying, in order to get rid of those massive crowds and eliminate unnecessarily long waiting times.

He looks at her like she's a freaking prophet and goes "... Uhh, I hadn't thought of that..."

THAT is a MORON.

Also, sorry to hear about your accident.

I mean, of course, shouldn't you hassle your landlord about it in the vain hope that they'll do something about it next year some time?

I'm fairly certain it was caused by the strong winds. The strong winds that lifted a big metal tray and slammed it into the window. A big metal tray that was sitting on top of the rabbit hutch. The rabbit hutch we're not supposed to have because we're not allowed to have pets. Yeah.

I don't know about Australia, or even, I guess, the rest of Canada, but any 'no pets allowed' clause in an Ontario lease is rendered null and void by the residential tenancies act.
I mean it is cool if you don't want to fight with the landlord or whatever but hey that's the laws hereabouts.

A coworker hooked me up with some sweet pipe tobacco today. I'm gonna mix it with my regular blend. I'm pretty happy with this.

Also, me and the bf are thinking of starting a podcast. About sexual, and sexual health, and relationship advice, and blah blah blah. Basically, we've come to realize we are pretty open about this sort of stuff, and are pretty good at giving out advice to friends about this stuff, so why not? Plus it'd be a fun way to spend some time together, and get to know each other even more so, so that is pretty cool. Only one problem. Or two i guess. Or actually three. 1. We don't know what kind of equipment to use. 2. We don't have any answers, or starting points for our first podcast(Anybody have any questions for us??plz) 3.What should we call it??

dear bloggy thread,

last night i saw future of the left again and i met a cuteish boy and we danced and then went out for drinks and completely non-awkward banter and it was probably one of the best date-like things i have ever been on. however, upon further reflection and after a bit of facebook stalkery i have come to the conclusion that he looks like a cross between my current boyfriend and tommydski. is this weird y/n?
