Current 93 - Lucifer Over London

I've been walking around for the past hour chanting SICK SICK SICK SIX SIX SIX SICK SICK SICK SIX SIX SIX.

Khar, thank you so much for getting me hooked on C93.

A whole lot of Evergrey!  I downloaded several of their videos the other day, and have since been wanting to listen to them for a long time, but I had to listen to a bunch of The Bad Plus to prepare a presentation on them.  I'm so fucking excited about seeing them, In Flames, Nevermore and Throwdown (though, I've never heard of Throwdown, are they any good?) in May.

Hawkwind - Sonic Attack

From that shoddy repackaging I bought, I guess the packaging should have warned me. I really have no idea why I bought this since I don't even like Pink Floyd all that much.
Still I am willing to give it a chance :)

Symphony X - The Odessey

As impressive as Romeo is, I'm not a huge fan of his solos (his rhythm guitar is killer), and this track sounds way too much like a movie score, and there isn't much in the world that sounds sillier than a synthesized orchestra.

For a generally indie-oriented messageboard it's pretty funny that the NP thread is a total metalhead invasion :P

Oh yeah, I'm listening to that goddamn Pendulum song again. Can't get enough of it. I should probably skip track before posting in here again.

That's because metal is by far the greatest form of music ever.

Iced Earth - The Phantom Opera Ghost

I'm trying to figure out if I like the female vocals or not.  Either way, I think they really compliment Matt Barlow's vocals ('course, I'm not sure whether I like Barlow's singing.  I've heard Ripper is better, but only live, because he's not trying to be Barlow).

FASTER THAN A BULLET

It is SO much fun to sing aloud with this at obnoxiously high volumes.

Yeah, he's also, like, 7 fucking feet tall.  Have you listened to the Death cover of that song (off of Sounds of Perseverence)?  Richard Christy is an incredible drummer, but he doesn't play the intro correctly.  He kind of slacks off and just does bursts with the double kick.  It's disappointing.

Iced Earth - Slave to the Dark

p.s.  Richard Christy rocks Horror Show (the Iced Earth album), too.

I know it's off of Tribe, but is it okay for me to like it?  Though, I really think Geoff should stop trying to rap.

Also, hopefully In Flames will play some of their older stuff, and hopefully they won't play it as if it were their newer stuff (namely, the vocals, what happened?)

I saw In Flames awhile ago, Feb, 21 I believe. They did play there old stuff, although not as much as there newer. They also played alot from there mid-career, (Colony and Clayman). They didn't play there old stuff like there new stuff. If anything they played there newer stuff more like there old stuff. Like the Song "Leeches" from Come Clarity, he growled the "Spit Me Out... etc etc" part like there older stuff (If I dare say, better then there old stuff.) That song wasn't really my favourite on Come Clarity, but after witnessing it Live, I see it in a whole new light. (I'm a fan of In Flames old/new material)

oh... and what am I listening to?

I've seen In Flames three times. First time I thought they were great, though the set petered out towards the end. It was right after Dimebag got shot, so they did a cover of Fucking Hostile, which interestingly they didn't dedicate to Dimebag, but to the victims of the Indian Ocean tsunami. 'Twas a fine concert: they were headlining and had pyros: a good old school set as well, opened with Pinball Map, played a lot of Clayman/Colony era stuff.

Second time was ghastly. They were supporting Motorhead, so the amp set-up was entirely wrong: I think they were putting vocals and guitars through the same amp, as the vocals were barely audible. The sound was extremely muddy, they were using Cloud Connected style oscillator loops behind EVERY FUCKING TRACK and their set was mainly lowest-common denominator crowd-pleasers.

Third time restored my faith in them a good deal. They were headlining again, and had a huuuuge set. They dropped a few good songs (no Clayman, no Watch Them Feed, which I think they only did the first time I saw them as it was a one-off tbh). The new songs did, however, totally re-energise the set. They rape the stuff off the last two albums live, even if its not really my cup of tea, and there were some extremely nice surprises. I thought it might be a good night when after a few song Anders announced "Now, we have a raaather old track for you. I hope some of you know it. This one is BEHIND SPACE." the other highlight was Moonshield straight into Episode 666. They also went back to opening with Pinball Map, a surprise which won me a beer as I'd bet with a friend they wouldn't open with the track he said off the new album.

So, in short:
They'll play a sprinkling of classics.
They're never going back to the golden days.
Make sure they're headlining.
Get totally plastered first.

Well, I figured that they wouldn't be as they were before, but I didn't want to be bored with the new style of vocals the entire time, even on the older tunes.  I think they're headlining (HoB has all In Flames songs as the song samples for that concert), which will give me plenty of time to get my drunk on.  I told my friend already that I want to be within walking distance of the hotel (no sleeping in car, because it's going to be hot and muggy Myrtle Beach, thank you very much).

I think you need a special player for it, so you'd probably have to ask someone.

But if your computer has a DVD-ROM Drive, I think you could open it and copy the movie files and just put them on YouSendIt or something. I've never tried it before, so I can't be sure, but I think that's how it works.

Metallica - Dyer's Eve

It'd be cool if Kirk Hammett didn't try to shred and Lars Ulrich didn't try to be a good drummer and Jason Newstead were audible.  Okay, so basically the only guy doing a good job in this song is Hetfield, but he makes the song good.

Ayreon - The Two Gates

We have been saved, our journey has ended

What was your aim, or was it just some game?
Have we been humbled, or did we prevail?

What was your plan?
We don't understand
Did we pass?
Or DID WE FAIIIIL?

What scraps of the upcoming Gnarls Barkely album I can find.

I am so gonna go on a find everything I can that even remotely involves Dangermouse shopping spree when I get a chance.

[edit]TripleJ is playing the album in full midday monday for those who're insterested. So get yer tape recorders out of the shed and dust em off and find some old Moody Blues tape to record over.
