Approve of the shirt, disapprove of the cap. Maybe it's just the photo, but being close to flesh-tone makes me think of those bald caps people wear to look like old people in plays. Not good looks.

Not those.

Dark trousers that aren't jeans, and a shirt that isn't white. If you're not sure how smart you're meant to be, take along a tie but don't put it on until you've seen what she's wearing.

I always tend to think that a smart jumper is an acceptable compromise if you don't know. That way if she is dressed up then you don't seem overdressed but if she has not overdressed then you don't look like you have either.

I agree with May about the no jeans and no white shirt though and smart shoes is pretty much a given.

Those shoes I wouldn't say I am too impressed with, I've seen them in shops and the soles make them look really odd.

I don't think anyone can ever give advice on jeans, it's a tough, but satifying thing to find.

The best thing to do is go in loads of shops & try loads of pairs on...Although I'm fully in the "finding one pair of slightly more expensive jeans & they will last you forever"

I have some wranglers & some cheap mondays & I barely wear anything else & I've had them for YEARS. (Wranglers, £5 TKmaxx, Cheap Mondays £15 Ebay, get in!)

You can always go to a Levis store, get all measured, get the nice lady to find the style that suits you then go thrift/ebay/internet shopping for that brand.

(The AT-AT trainers made me happy. I may have to buy some.)

Yeah, and it does have a bit to do with how you wear your undergarments, and what undergarments you wear. Last night, I wore a dress similar to those, and I looked quite busty, when I'm not actually all that busty, due to the bra I wore, and how I wore it. So yeah....

Oh, I'm more noticing how the waist and stomach on the second one seems to be half as wide as the hips, it's almost as extreme as a barbie doll. The fourth one also looks somewhat off, I assume they have built-in bras? Her right boob looks like it is too high because of the way she is standing to be giving the part of the dress beneath it that look. I suppose it makes sense, dancing with that body would likely be rather uncomfortable without some support, but it looks weird that way, makes her right breast look much bigger than the other. I would hope that if they have someone model a fancy dress, they would make sure it fits her first. The first and third dresses look much more natural, although it could be the angle, could be the models, I don't know.

The lines along the waist are crisper than the lines anywhere else on the body, it is very possible they are photoshopped.

I don't really think any of those dresses are very good except the last one, but I guess it's because they all seem a bit too costumey to me.

No, there is definitely something off about her lines, and I might just be seeing it because I'm looking for it, but the shadows seem off on her left side at the waist. I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing something off about that one, I'm not exactly learned when it comes to dresses. My father wanted a girl, but not that much. It could be photoshopping, could be a real uncomfortable undergarment, but something there doesn't look like it fits the rest of her lines, or the lines of any body type that I can think of, barring "fantasy" or "illustrated".

Yeah, the lines you guys are seeing as also visible around the tiki doll. I doubt they photoshopped the doll. I think it's probably just the quality of the picture.

Also, Nodaisho, was this the picture you were talking about with the boob looking off?

I'm pretty sure it's because the dress and couch sort of blend together.

ETA:

Here, I crappily mspainted a line between her boob and the couch. Not completely accurate, but it gets the point across.

Also, Andy, no offence, but I think its funny that you, an at student, who was once very very very proud of a gymnast body suit that you own, and I think paint stars on(? maybe), think those dresses are too costume-y. I'm not saying that you can't think that, and like I said, I really don't mean anything of it, I just think it's funny that an art student dislikes something because it is costume-y, especially when they were in love with a bodysuit.

So guys I need coat help. My pea coat is nice but just isn't warm enough, no matter how much I lie to myself every winter. Regular old North Face jackets are bulky and irritating and not fashionable at all.

I need something that looks good with super skinny jeans, is fucking warm, slimming, and isn't too long (jacket length).

Advice?

Id say a light on the lower left catching the lower half of her body, and light high right catching the top half. That weird no shadow spot is the lower left light dodging past the waste and washing out the elbow shadow from the top right.

Id say, probably not photo shopped. Though every time I think of altered images (part of my job description) I also think of motive and weigh quality heavily in it. Would someone put so much effort into an easily dissembled picture? Why would they alter it in the first place?

None taken! I own many many ridiculous things but pretty rarely wear them, I mostly wear wool and black these days. What I mean by costume-y is that I really like modern fashions that have taken a retro approach but when things have the sort of feel like they're meant to be worn to a costume party or something like that it seems out of place to me is all.

Also guys these images are photoshopped, they are edited, and they are airbrushed. To what extent on the waistline is arguable but eh.

Nodaisho, did you mean the shadow on this one?

Because that is a belt.
Oh, I see the belt (and I can tell it is cinched down pretty hard), I'm talking about the shadows, I can't figure out what kind of setup would get shadowing like that. It seems like if there was a light shining on her upper left (upper right of the picture), at least some of the light would get down to her legs, but they are strongly shadowed, aside from where a bit of light gets through between her shins.

The one that has the funny-looking boob is the 4th one, the black bad girl dress. The way she is standing moves her right side higher than her left, and the dress didn't move as much as her chest did. I would hope that they would make the dress fit the model as well as they could, it should fit her better than it would fit a random buyer, but the way she is standing brings her partway out of the dress.

edit: Ballard, the problem finding something that looks good with super-skinny jeans (aside from the obvious) is that a good part of insulation is trapping air in with you. Your body heat keeps the air warm, the insulation keeps the warm air from getting out. Maybe get a long underwear top and stick with the peacoat? How cold are we talking about here? I don't know how cold it gets in NY. My insulation experience tends to be for people that are going out in the mountains, not going around town, I figure you don't want to wear moisture-wicking long underwear, a fleece, a softshell, and a hardshell.

Maybe a leather jacket? They can get really warm depending on the lining.

It rarely gets below 20 Fahrenheit/ -7 Celcius but that is still damn cold.

It doesn't have to be really slim. I like that Canada Goose jacket and the comparable North Face- bulky jackets with fur-lined hoods are pretty cool. It's mostly the length- I want it to be short like a jacket. Most winter coats are not only thick but oversized and hang awkwardly a few inches below the hips.

I would buy that Canada Goose bomber right now but it's like $450. :(

This is basically the coat I wear and I got it at target. It's pretty warm. Though I did get it a few years back.

(the brand is Mossimo)

Is this the sort of thing you're looking for?

Just ordered a mackinaw cruiser, finna look siccck.

In other news, aside from that jacket, how does one not care about clothes?

I don't mean like, making an effort to look like you don't care. I mean actually how do I not care about what I wear. I don't understand how to do this.

Please, help.
