So, I got these like two weeks ago and they're probably the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned.

Boat shoes can look spiffy, but then they can look all Henley Regatta in a bad way to, like people in Haynes polo with the collar turned up & Gap cargo shorts.

Internets! I am procrastinating from revision by spending far too much time and money on Asos!

Here are the clothes I have bought:

A black t-shirt
A black vest top
A pretty flowery dress
A pretty pink flowery dress
A beaded coral cocktail dress
An orange dress
A pale salmon prom-style dress

We will not talk about how much it cost. Instead we will focus on how I will not have to buy clothes again for a long time! And how pretty they are! And how awesome it is that you can buy things off the internet... actually that's the problem, it is too easy.

Barmy I clicked the link for the first flower dress and first I thought it was pretty but now I think it's more just that the girl is pretty- not feeling the teeshirt-y top. The rest are rad though!

I basically want some boots for hiking/general-getting-the-shit-beaten-out-of-them duties, so it's not really a hipster thing per sé. I'd actually prefer not steel-toe but that seems to be all I can find!

I am leaning toward the second pair of boots because I actually own no decent black footwear, everything is brown.

Work boots make horrible, horrible hikers. They last forever, yeh, but they'll absolutely maul your feet in the process. If you're dead-set on that style of boot, take a look at Timberland's composite-toe line, which is way lighter and much more comfortable.

I love my steel-toed work boots, the only thing wrong with them is the tiny squeak they make when I take a step because there's a hole in the sole. Hole in the sole. Anyway I've never found them remotely uncomfortable! And the alternative is broken toes when I accidentally drop a seven-foot scenery flat on my feet.

They're pretty nice, I'm sure you could find ones that are even simpler and don't have the check, I really like that style of shoes when they're all monochromatic and simple. But they are certainly not bad.

They're OK as far as Jordans go. I do actually really like earthy tones on sneakers though, if I was gonna get sneakers again a pair of Vegan Saucony Jazz would be high on the list.

So, over the next three weeks, I'm going to be writing a conference-style semiotic analysis of DIY fashion blogs (I've imposed only one requirement: they have to be primarily about making clothes.  I've been ignoring general "crafty" sites, which are frequently really cool but not quite what I'm looking for).  I'm beginning by creating a working list of good stuff... Here are the blogs I plan to mine for information, so far:

Makeshift Project
The Uniform Project
New Dress A Day
Confessions of a Sewing Dork
Made: A Creative Collection
V and Co.
The Mother Huddle: Sew Be It
See Mommy Sew
Angry Chicken
Made by Rae
The Handmade Dress

Now I need your help: what am I missing?  What's out there in the fashion blog community that's really good, really influential, really cool, really creative?

ALSO: are there any men doing this?  The bloggers on my list all have two X chromosomes.  I know there are a number of men's fashion sites out there, but as far as I can tell, they're all about buying stuff or how-to guides on being manly.  Do any men make clothing and blog about it?  There are plenty of men in the mainstream fashion world...it seems like they've got to be out there blogging, too.

Have you considered knitting blogs? They are technically DIY fashion, but all of your blogs are about sewing. (Some are really cool, btw, and I bookmarked a few.) I don't know if you think that's "too crafty", but I don't see why they would be if their focus is clothing. Sadly I don't have many bookmarks since I switched laptops, but check out sites like Knitty and Ravelry and browse the patterns and links to find bloggers. (You need an invite for ravelry, so I'll send you one if you're interested, just PM me.) I can dig up more if you'd like. The only actual blog I have bookmarked is Brooklyn Tweed.

And as far as I know, most of the blogs I remember were written by women, but I know there are men on Knitty and Ravelry, you just have to find them.
